I am reknowned in my family as having the best memory. Sometimes I can get a tidbit of info from my parents, then tell them weeks later. Or when we went to places for vacations. Or where my dad got his watch.
Now, my cousins had a NES at their house. This must have been in 1997 or so, when I could have been less than 10, possibly 6 or 7.
One day I came up to find that he was playing ZELDA II: THE ADVENTURE OF LINK. Sometime later I find him playing this weird thing where the only colors were blue and white, and there were all these weird things around it. Then I find a sequence where the character is sitting on a piece of flotsam in the middle of the ocean, watching the credits go by (sort of like Z:LA, but not). I merely assumed it was Zelda II and thought nothing of it for years. But now I know it is not Zelda II and would pay money (OK, maybe not) to anyone who might have a clue to what the mystery NES game.

Character: Male The main gameplay was definitely top-view, nothing like Zelda at all. You have to realize I was VERY YOUNG at the time.

I can't help you either... but if you want to search game endings... VGmuseum has a really great gallery HERE. You might get lucky and find what you're looking for.

I've been racking my brain over this for a bit, but the description is so vague. Howard, you can't give us some idea of what the character might've been doing? And exactly what do you mean that the only colors were blue and white? I'm taking a wild guess here, but based on the male character, overhead view, and apparently dominant blue and white color scheme, could it be Kickle Cubicle? However, the ending bares no resemblance to your description.

Yeah, more description if possible would be great. I have another idea, but I need just a bit more info...

Hmmm...well, it was in a factory or some sort...it wasn't Kickle Cubicle...darnit, if I was at the house right now I could probably safely eliminate several dozen.
The graphics weren't very good (even for a NES game), as I recall (that's about 10 years ago, so my memory has probably gone bad between now and then)
I'm searching VGMuseum actively. I'll certainly tell you if I get a match. If I do, then...that would be supremely awesome, laying one part of my past to rest. Someday...
