Game Gear? Games from the hand held console? No fair! Why not also include old-school Game Boy titles like Balloon Kid, X, For the Frog the Bell Tolls, Solar Striker, Mole Mania, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, Game Boy Wars, Radar Mission and other classic Game Boy titles?

I think Sega's had the emulation technology well in hand for a while (see GC's Sonic Gems) to do GG ports.
As for Game Boy, well, we'd have to ask Nintendo why they're slacking in that department. Many, many rumors have gone on and on about playing GB titles on the DS, but we're still waiting. It'll come in time, but who knows when that time will be.

The first bunch of Master System games in Japan doesn't include Alex Kidd. Well, that's just sad. As I've said before...
Alexkiddalexkiddalexkidd!
I love that little boxing prince with the big head. And a scooter!

I don't know for sure, but according to guys at Wii FanBoy, the reason that the Game Gear is included is because their hardware is the same. That would make sense since there was a device that let the Game Gear play Master System games.

The reason why they are also lumping Game Gear in is because Sega's Emulator is actually a Game Gear Emulator... it's just the Master System used pretty much the same technology AS the Game Gear. Any Game Gear Emulator ALSO plays Master System Games.

The Game Gear was a portable Master System, just like the Nomad was a portable Genesis. The Sonic games, for example, that you get on the Game Gear were already released for the Master System years prior (Sonic Chaos, Sonic Labyrinth, and those watered down Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 games). I think the only Game Gear exclusive 8-bit Sonic games were ones like Triple Trouble and the Drift games, but I never owned a Master System or Game Gear growing up so I may be wrong.
As far as GB on the Virtual Console, it'll come in due time. I'm personally more interested in if they plan to start porting Arcade or 3rd Party PSX titles. They could easily have something like Symphony of the Night and just say "Other" for the console, just like XBOX Live Arcade.

I'm excited to have another system on the VC that I never played or owned before!
Really much of my best value on the Virtual Console is with SNES, N64, TurboGrafx, and now Master System, considering I have Animal Crossing & Zelda: Collector's Edition, Sega Genesis Collection & Sonic Mega Collection, and the various Neo Geo Collections.

There was also Tails Adventure There were a lot of good exclusive Game Gear games. Super Columns is one of my favorite puzzle games to date. And not only does it have Master System remakes, but watered down versions of Genesis classics I got a Master System and a Game Gear. I must admit, it's hard to acheive a good Master System collection, since it was bigger in Europe, so on eBay, the European releases are much more common.

Well, this forum IS for Classic Nintendo, but it's also the forum for any Virtual Console topics. Unless I just create a separate VC forum... but then this one will pretty much be obsolete.

Fry pretty much nailed it - it's VC news, so that's why I put it here.
