As many of you are aware, Nintendo was not always a major console manufacturer, and prior to the release of the Famicom, many ports of Nintendo games appeared on other systems. Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros. and Popeye were among the most frequently ported, though others were as well. Since then, Nintendo has also licensed out their characters to other companies, such as to Hudson's Super Mario Bros. Special on the NEC-PC88, and the infamous Zelda games on the Philips CD-i. Even on their own systems, Nintendo licensed out their characters to third party publishers, including Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine, and (my personal favourite) Hello Kitty World on the Famicom - a home console port of the fantastic Balloon Kid. It is about damn time I started tracking down as much information on these games as I can, and I'd like your help. I need to find resources, screenshots (especially for the old arcade ports) and release information for these games. Flyers, boxart and so on would also be massively helpful. If any of you can help me track down information on anything from the Atari 2600 port of Donkey Kong, right up to the more recent "Mario Family" and "Kirby Family" on Game Boy Color, I will be hugely grateful

Cool. I've never heard of that one before. I'm starting to think the Pokemon license may well have been farmed out a few times as well

No way! I've still got the Blue version! It's in my hand right now! I can tell you all you need to know about it. This has been in my drawer for about 10 years now

Indeed. For the main, I haven't covered licensed games at all unless they appear on Nintendo consoles (and those I have don't have information).
I'm filling in the holes.
The Mario Wiki may well be helpful (TMK covers a lot of them too). I need more accurate resources though.
Man, most of these games are ugly...

I know that Coleco had been very chummy with Nintendo back in the early days of gaming. I had Popeye and Donkey kong for my Colecovision. Wish I still had it. *grumble* But it's one of the reasons I love Nintendo like I do. ^_^ I look forward to reading these when they get finished, Fry.

Popeye was released at least for these systems: Atari 8-bit computers Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Commodore 64 Intellivision Odyssey 2/Philips G7000 TI-99/4A Donkey Kong Ports: Amstrad CPC(Very good graphics) Apple II (DK looks like Cranky) Atari 8-bit (DK looks sad) Atari 2600 (horrible) Atari 7800 (kinda good) ColecoVision (first level flipped) Commodore 64 Intellivision MSX (DK looks really odd) PC (DK looks like frankenstein and first level is flipped) TI-99/4A TRS-80 CoCo(A Homebrew port that looks as good as the NES version) VIC-20( more horrible than atari 2600) ZX Spectrum I also think there was a C64 port of the G&W version of Donkey Kong but this could've been homebrew. DK was so popular it led to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUDI4zXVcT0and soon www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWbSpDCNHIw (yeah I know it's not real).
