Well, it's been years since I've actually done any creative writing, but I've been wanting to get back into it. I used to write an occasional fan fic some years back, mostly for Star Fox just because it was so much fun to write for Star Fox. I'll post a short one here, just to see how everyone likes it.
I think this may actually be the last fan fic I ever wrote from a few years back. It didn't get a lot of exposure, so I'll give it a chance. It's called "Slippy's Ship Is Under Maintenance."
One last note: as I understand it, Slippy's father appears in Star Fox: Assault. Keep in mind that I did write this a few years ago, so please excuse any inconsistencies between my version of Slippy's father and the "real" character.
EDIT: Just thought I'd change the subject title to correspond with what seems to be the standard.
Hmm. Judging by the overwhelming response, my little story here seems to be a huge success. Oh well. No news is good news, I guess.

Slippy's Ship Is Under Maintenance
“Slippy…”
The bright light slowly faded to blurred shapes. His skin stung. His lungs filled with air. With his first breath, he began to cry.
He heard only one voice: “Congratulations, Mister and Misses Toad. It’s a boy!”
* * *
“Slippy…”
“Come on, Slippy! You can do it!”
Mom held him up by his short arms as he stepped towards Dad. Mom slowly let him go, and Slippy ambled forward, reaching for Dad. He kept putting one foot in front of the other to keep from falling and hurting himself. He finally made it to Dad, who caught him and hugged him.
“That’s my boy! I knew you could do it!” Dad said.
“And he’s so young!” Mom said, “His legs just grew in!”
“He gets that from my side. I was an early walker, too!”
* * *
“Slippy…”
The garage was getting warm. Sweat formed on Slippy’s dirty forehead as he continued to work. He barely noticed his father walking in with two glasses of lemonade.
“Need something to drink?” his father asked.
“Hey, D-d-dad! Can you hand me that wr-wr-wrench over there?”
His father chuckled as he passed it over. “What are you working on this time?”
“I’m souping up this old engine. I know I can get more p-p-power out of it.”
“And what are you going to do with a souped up engine?”
Slippy shrugged. “I don’t know. M-m-maybe I’ll build a rocket or something to put it in.”
His father laughed again. “Slippy, did I ever tell you how proud I am of you?”
Slippy continued to work. “Huh? Uh… Yesterday.”
“You’re a real engineering wiz. When I was your age, I was just getting started. But you, you’re already an expert! And I really appreciate your help around the shop. Maybe someday you can work for me!”
Slippy stopped for a moment. “You want me to work for you when I g-g-grow up?”
“Son, you can do anything you want …But you might want to do something about that stutter.”
* * *
“Slippy…”
Slippy was working in the hangar at the Annual Corneria City Air Show. He was almost finished working on an engine when he heard a bright voice behind him.
“Hey, kid! They probably don’t want you touching the equipment.”
Slippy turned around to see a young fox standing in front of him. “I work here,” Slippy said.
“Yeah, right. You’re about eight years old. You don’t know anything about this stuff.”
“I’m nine, and I do, too! My dad’s an engineer, and he was hired to work here at the air show. He said I could help.”
“Is that so? What’s your name?”
“Slippy Toad.”
“I’m Fox McCloud.”
“McCloud? Is your dad James McCloud from Star Fox?”
“Well… yeah. He’s performing in the show.”
“Awesome! Do you get to fly with him?”
“Sometimes.”
“Are you good?”
“I’m not bad.”
“Are you going to fly for your dad when you grow up?”
“Actually I’m going into the academy as soon as I graduate. I’ll probably join the Cornerian army.”
Another voice entered the conversation. “Fox!” A brown-furred hare walked in. “Your father was wondering where you went. He wants to know if you want to go out for pizza after the show.”
“Sure!”
“Are you in Star Fox, too?” Slippy asked.
The hare knelt down to Slippy’s eye-level. “That I am. The name’s Peppy. Who might you be?”
“Slippy.”
“Slippy… Ah! You must be Mister Toad’s boy. You know, he can’t stop talking about you! Care to join us for pizza?”
“You bet!”
* * *
“Slippy…”
Slippy was working in a lamp-lit garage when Fox stepped in. The sky was dark. Rain was pouring down.
“Fox?” Slippy said, putting down his wrench, “I haven’t seen you around lately.”
“Yeah. Sorry. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking. There’s something I need to ask you.”
“What about?”
“Now that I’ve graduated from the academy, I’ve decided to continue Star Fox in my father’s place. I’ve been talking to Peppy about it, and he understands. It’s only a matter of time before Andross invades Corneria. Lylat needs Star Fox right now. Falco’s going to fly with us, too. I came to ask you to join us.”
Slippy paused, taking it in. “A new Star Fox? And you want me to…”
“I know this is sudden, and I realize you had other plans. I did too, but… things didn’t turn out the way I expected. This is something I have to do. Your engineering know-how would be a big help, but I’ll understand if you don’t want to.”
Slippy thought about it briefly, but there wasn’t much of a decision to make. “Sure, Fox. I’ll do it.”
“Are you sure? It’s going to be dangerous.”
“I know, but I want to. I can’t stay here and feel helpless. I like to fix things. If you think we can make a difference, then I’m with you.”
Fox smiled. “Thanks, Slippy.”
“No problem. But… what will I tell my father?”
“I think he’ll understand. If you want, I can be there.”
“Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it.”
Slippy couldn’t help but get excited. “Wow! I can’t believe I’m going to be a member of Star Fox!”
Fox chuckled lightly. “There’s just one thing, though.”
“What’s that?”
“You’re going to have to learn how to fly an Arwing.”
* * *
“Slippy…”
The Faint voice grew clearer.
“Slippy…”
Slippy opened his eyes to a blurry vision.
“…Slippy!” Peppy said, “Speak to me!”
Slippy choked a little. “What… happened?”
Peppy heaved a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness! For a minute, I thought we’d lost you. You got pretty banged up back there.”
“Where am I?”
“You’re on the Great Fox. Your Arwing took heavy damage over Zoness. You’re lucky to be alive.”
Slippy blinked and rubbed his sore head. “I’m… alive? My life flashed before my eyes! It was… short.”
Peppy laughed. Rob entered the room and made an announcement in his usual mechanical voice: “Maintenance complete on Slippy’s ship. We are now entering orbit over planet Venom.”
Peppy turned back to Slippy. “Can you fly?”
Slippy shook off the grogginess. “I think so.”
“Great! Fox and Falco are waiting for us in space. This is it, Slippy. Time to take Andross down!”
