We seem them and played them for all our lifes from Atari 2600 to todays Xbox and Im talking about Video Game mascots, lets start with the first super star in the 1980 we seen there Official Game mascot like Namco's Pacman made it self a huge super-star and made things like Toys, t-shirt and even cartoon show but then came Mario in 1981 Donkey Kong and then it has a life of its own. After many Super Mario games Nintendo made Mario its Big N mascot and then came Sega's Sonic and trying to un-seat the Mario's Mascot's Kingdom! But after many years of "The Console Wars" with both Nindendo's Super NES and Sega's Genesis in a no hold-bars Mario vs. Sonic with funny cacth frase like Sega's "Ninten-dont" and Nintendo's "Gen-isn't" in the end Mario came out the winner and to making it worst for Sega they made Soinc game for Nintendo's consoles... Well here's my take on who's the king of video gaming baby! So how does an ordinary Italian from Brooklyn reach international superstar status? Well lets look at his past jobs, A Carpenter - from Donkey Kong 1981. A Jailer - from Donkey Kong JR 1982. A Plubmer - from Super Mario Bros 1985. A Ariplane Piolt - from Super Mario Land 1989. A Doctor- from Dr.Mario 1990. A Super Hero - from Super Mario World 1991. A Golf Player - from Golf 1985. A Feferee - from NES Punch-Out!! 1987. A Painter - from Mario Paint 1992. A Baker - from Yoshi's Cookie. A Kart Racer - from Super Maio Kart 1991. A Fighter - from Super Smash Bros 1997. And so on and so on and so on... See if you can list all his resamay.  |

Which one is his day job? Hero or plumber? A little fooling around: Mario's not a plumber any longer since he now has stable income from the Princess. Then, "Hero" refers to advanced mercenaries in Fire Emblem. Mario is neither. -------------------------------------------------------------- Now, my real answer: It seems that Mario is doing both. A princess-saving plumber, I'd say. |

I don't think Mario is the mayor in SNES Sim City. AFAIK, his only appearance in it is as a statue.
All right, then answer me this: is Mario originally from Italy or Brooklyn? I always wondered about that. Or is there an Italian minority in the Mushroom Kingdom? (The ending to Yoshi's Island seems to suggest that.)

Mario is not the mayor of Sim City... YOU are the mayor of Sim City... Mario is nothing more than a statue and/or a forest on one of the secret levels.

But Sonic's fanbase is INSANELY larger than Mario's has ever been. Then again, Nintendo's fanbase is insanely larger than Sega's, so it evens out. |

Dont forget one little thing Sonic has that Mario dont and that is for years Sonic had many anime cartoons made alot in Japan and I have YET seen ANY cartoon made of Mario in Japan by Nintendo or anyone in Japan at all and whats soo funny is that Mario was around WAY longer then the blue-furrie dude so what gives? I know they had some cartoon made of Mario but in USA only and not very good ones at best. |

I know they had some cartoon made of Mario but in USA only and not very good ones at best. Actually, I think there were a couple of TV specials about Mario over there... but the fact is, kids would rather watch a blue hedgehog fighting robots at supersonic speed than watch a chubby plumber jump on turtles.  |

I'd rather watch Pokémon than either, personally. They're not overly restrained by their videogame roots, and they are a hell of a lot more entertaining than any other videogame-based cartoon I've seen.
Though the Mega Man Battle Network cartoons are quite good.

Though the Mega Man Battle Network cartoons are quite good. Pokémon is the only game-based anime I can stand to watch... Though I only saw Mega Man once. Not the regular Mega Man shows... they're awful... but the ones based on the Battle Network series are still quite good.
