Fry, in the "rules," you say you don't want anything offensive to be posted. I don't have a problem with that, of course. I believe that the content of fan fiction/art should remain within the scope of its source material. However, that also means that if I write a fan fic for a "mature" game like Eternal Darkness, I would feel free to include "mature" content.
I realize this is a family-friendly forum, and I was wondering how you felt about this as far as posting such fan material goes. Would you consider it offensive and inappropriate?

I suppose if you put up an external link, maybe.

By "mature" content, I actually mean immature rubbish that's not suitable for the kids. Like naked Peach... or naked Bowser (!?) ;D If you want to draw something gory from a gory game, go nuts! If you want to draw Alex in the nude being molested by the undead... probably best to not post it... actually, it'd be best if you never thought of it in the first place. Yuck... you're sick!!

Sounds like a fine line. I know there isn't any sexual content in Eternal Darkness, but if there was, would that make it acceptable in a fan work?
Actually, I'm not doing anything like that at all. I'm currently writing a parody of Eternal Darkness. It's an idea I've had for a long time, and I'm finally trying to develop it (perhaps spurred by the fact that I saw Scary Movie 4 last weekend). So far, there's nothing blatantly gory or sexual in it (though, there is a particular religious joke I might ultimately remove). I was just wondering about the boundaries here in case I might be able to post it.

I don't think censors the world over have come to a consensus on what should and shouldn't be shown for what reasons... so you bring up some quite deep moral issues that are as tricky to resolve as they are contradictory and pissy. Basically... on Nintendo Database: 1. Sexual content? No... this is a website whose main readership is probably young. Nintendo games do not contain sexual content. If one did, it will be covered by ratings to prevent children from playing them - something this website doesn't have. So no sexual content. 2. Violence and bad language? This entirely depends on context. Excessive and/or unnecessary bad language and depictions of violence are not acceptable. Within the proper context they can improve an image, a joke or a text - if used outside of a proper context they just look messed up and stupid. 3. Racism and racist language - to any race - is forbidden. Similar derogatory terms are similarly forbidden. 4. Parody, jokes and so on are allowed within the right context. So... if you have a joke about religion in there, it's fine by me! Religion is fair game - anybody who takes themselves that seriously are asking for it

Funny you should say your rules..."Super Smash Sisters" walked a quite fine line, and we all heard about the "Chef" incident from South Park, no?

Super Smash Sisters did not walk a fine line. Super Smash Sisters was absolutely fine. How was this in any way in contravention of the rules? They're all clothed, they're all just stood around... they're not writhing on the floor tickling each others' rude bits... The Isaac Hayes thing is just stupid. South Park takes the mickey out of every religion... Hayes only got pissy because it was HIS religion under attack. This would not contravene NinDB's rules. If people can't take a joke, then they deserve to be laughed at harder. Jokes are more important to well-being than a giant invisible man in the clouds. After all, South Park has a lot of jokes about the Jews, but their defense is that Matt Stone (one of the creators/writers/voice actors) is Jewish - he can laugh at himself and his religion, and I applaud him.

Well, the thing with religion is that any joke about it could be considered offensive. But the problem is that some people get too serious about it. (See "War on Terror")
But as I say, if God didn't have a sense of humor, laughing would be a sin.
After a little thought, I've decided to leave the joke in my parody.
