It's official. Namco, videogame maker extraordinaire, has been bought by Bandai... toy maker and occasional videogame maker.
So what does this mean in the long run? Bandai has licenses galore. Namco has videogame knowhow. It might well mean loads of better games based on toys we love.
But the bonus catch: Nintendo is not only exceptionally chummy with Namco right now, but are also a significant shareholder of Bandai. Could this mean another merger to the benefit of the Big N?
Time to speculate, my children!

The biggest thing I'm seeing here is that Nintendo's share in Namco will have decreased in percentage with Bandai being in the picture there. But given that Nintendo owns a share in Bandai (from what Fryguy just let on), I guess it's even MORE favorable to Nintendo.
And maybe more Namco action figures.

..........
............. ....... ............. .............
........ Why....? Will this end......?
I've been hearing A LOT OF news that is about major companites buying another big companies.
First of all, I've got the very shocking news that Adobe bought Macromedia. Then, I've heard that Konami bought Hudson (I don't know if this is real.) Then..... Bandai bought Namco?
Namco was somehow a large company, but still.... being bought?
Oh my, when will these come to an end? so many things happened in the commercial world within half a month...
Maybe a while later the world will end up with only one existing company, or one single organisation will take over the earth.

I suppose I'd better not let on that Nintendo Database has been bought by Walkers Crisps then. In exchange for unlimited crisp deliciousness, I will now dedicate the site to the history and flavours of Walkers salted potato products.
Just kidding ;D

How big a percentage did N get of Bandai again? I doubt this'll effect Nintendo or Namco's support of Nintendo's consoles, though.

Nintendo recently increased their 20% of Bandai shares. I think they have 27% or something now, making them a majority shareholder.

This reminds to the 1996 days where Sega wanted to merge with Bandai. Still, as we were just getting over the fact 40% of Codemasters was absorbed, Eidos is (about to get) bought out, Adobe acquired Macromedia. Pretty soon, Ubisoft will be hopefully just be a memory. (yay)

I suspect we may see some Namco game toys. Which is good, especially if they decide to do that with MKAGP. That would be great.

The gaming industry is but an oversized game of monopoly...

Will Namco be absorbed totally, a division of Bandai (official name="Bandai Games"?), or a mere label?
