What's the MKDS cameo? Well, I'm not talking about the well known ROB since now everybody knows it. What I mean is the SMB3 Mario head on the main menu that appears before "SINGLE PLAYER".

I noticed that too, though I wasn't sure which game it was from.
One of the battlefields is a Nintendo DS, if that counts.

Theres a ton of SMB3 stuff in MKDS. 3 out of 16 courses are SMB3 themed.

I could've sworn there was more. Either way, thats probably more than any other individual Mario game (aside from the other Karts, of course).

Woo boy, is this a Cameo filled game. Here's what I can recall (I'll have more later): Wario Stadium - Has SMB1 sprites of a Mushroom and a Star in the displays, plus old-school fonts. Desert Track (gah) - A pure homage to SMB3, featuring the angry Sun, Firesnakes and the Pipework from World 2-3 and 7-8. Pokeys from SM64 also pop up, and plenty of pyramids and bricks from SMB3 abound, too. Shroom Ridge - The trucks have a Cheep-Cheep sprite (from SMB3 I believe) and a fruit from SMW on the sides. I'll do more research on these. Airship Fortress - As stated in another thread, Rocky Wrenches return, as well as Bullet Bills and the Flamethrowers used on the airships. Awesome track, too. Figure-8 - Features the plates used in SMB3 in the background (the platforms with bolts on the corner in many of the worlds). There's so many more...oye. I'll report back when I get the chance and fill in any blanks that may be left from others, if I can. ^^ Great game, btw...pick it up.

Well, theres also Delfino Plaza, which is so obvious it could barely be considered a cameo.

I don't think in-series cameos counts. The SMB3 Mario head I could see... the tracks, not so much.
I'd say only ROB and the DS Battlefield would count.

I am more than happy to continue going, and I was assuming that it would be okay to do so given Mario Kart Double Dash's cameo page included some similar items. The Cheep-Cheep and the Apple would count, given the P-Wing Mail truck.

Indeed. Settings from games are tenuous... but sprite gags and similar are likely to be included. References to systems are usually definite. ROB is a sure thing

The Figure-of-8 course at the start has the big steel blocks in the background, and parts of the course are made up of SMB3 blocks.
I saw there was a desert level in the game, but when I picked it up and saw it was Desert Hills from SMB3 (complete with Angry Sun, Fire Snakes and pipes) I laughed! Wheee!

I dont think you could count Figure-8 Circuit as a SMB3 course though, its only those blocks.

But the background could have been anything, really, but for some reason or another they chose the SB3 blocks. If it was, say, those round hills that appear alot, I wouldn't call that a cameo, but since we have not seen the SMB3 blocks in any other game, I'd say it counts, personally.

I think only two. None of the other battle tracks are- Twilight house, nope. Palm shores might be a sunshine relation. There's the delfino lighthouse in Cheep Cheep beach. Tart top, no. The rest are from other games in the series.
Also, did you know that some elements from older tracks appear in the newer ones- cheep-cheeps, boos, crabs, pipes, traffic, snowmen, etc. Maybe thats where some inspiration came from.
EDIT: Plus, the karts. ROBs kart, Bowser's Clown Car Copter one and the Rambi Rider.
