The Pokemon Salamence looks like a homage to the old Anime, Devilman. Copy Paste: spazioinwind.libero.it/animeonline/devilman%20img1.jpgIn Pokemon XD, there's lots of weird referances too. The Pokemon center whereyou can trade to your GBA when you beat the game, has a bookshelf that mentions the Hoenn area. Sometimes trainers in the random battle say, "There's nothing under the truck, except maybe a grimer or a muk" or something like that, referring to that truck in the old gameboy games that everyone thought Mew came out of, and thinks its so important. One trainer has that cactus pokemon and a Chimecho, and mentions someone else having the same pokemon, an allusion to James from the anime. Also, when Mecha-Groudon is launching from the basement, it's almost a direct spoof of the old show, Mazinger, with the opening of the fountain, and rising of the Mecha Groudon! The Mecha Kyogre looks almost exactly like a pilder, which is the thing that goes in Mazinger's head. I think the hoverbike in that game is also ar eferance to some old anime too. Pilder: The Mecha-Kyogre has wings folding out with hover things on each wing, and a similar windshield. Mazinger Launching: That's almost the exact same way Mecha Groudon does it!

Phew! Quite a bit to reply to there: 1. On Salamence: I have noted how the devil is often referenced in Japanese things as blue with red wings. Note also the villain in Devil World. I imagine it's based on the devil as imagined in Japan. 2. On Hoenn book: I'll have to check that out (I'm playing XD now). 3. On Truck: Please explain what you mean by random battle. I'm clearly not that far yet 4: On James: I noticed that one too. It made me laugh out loud when she said it and showed what her Pokemon were (but not as much as the next trainer who believes her Grimer is cute and adorable). 5: On Mazinger: I'm going to tread carefully here. I have never seen the show, and I don't know whether Mazinger is just one of many shows that used similar ideas. If you can provide some kind of Mazinger website for me to look over I'll check it out.

1. Maybe i was wrong about Salamence, I just thought it was a big coincidnese becuase of the very similar wings, and also it was created by Go Nagia. 3. Er, I meant Quick Battles. 5. Mazinger was one of the first super robot shows in Japan, created by Go Nagai, and was the bases for almost every other Super Robot show since. Just google Go Nagai and you'll find more information. Mazinger launches the same was as Mecha groudon, so it's definatly a spoof on it. A lot of robot or mecha shows used launching sequences but Mazinger's trademark is coming up from under a pool, witha lever, like MechaGroudon. Here's a better animated gif/screenshot of it, its the best I could find. img69.imageshack.us/img69/493/mazinger3zf.gif

On #2, the reason that there is a bookcase mentioning the Hoenn area is because you can trade pokemon with a copy of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Also the other bookcase has books on the Kanto Pokemon, and seeng as you can also trade with Fire Red and Leaf Green this makes sense.

Yes, but Mazinger's launching sequence is unique to Mazinger. youtube.com/watch?v=ZVj57OjCgII&search=MazingerIt was one of the VERY first robot shows, just watch the clip and look at Mecha Groudon launching!!
