I thought someone would've recognized this, but the boss in the big tower in the middle of the triforce islands (I forget the name!) is definatly a homage to Andross from the Star Fox games.
He's a gaint floating head, with two floating hands, with weapoints in the middle of his hands. You have to shoot his hands just like Starfox, only this time with arrows, and throw bombs into his mouth... Like Star Fox.
I'm not sure if the boss in Mario Kart DS that is two gaint rock hands with weak points in his eyes is a homage to Andross or not though.
Speaking of MK:DS, I saw in other topics here that there are spritse from SMB3 all over the game, but I didn't hear anyone mention that the boss battles in MKDS, have sprites and resemble the castles or fortresses from SMB3 too.

Giant stone heads with attacking hands are almost a videogame convention. I don't think Eyerok (from SM64), Andross (from StarFox 64) and that Stone Guardian (from Wind Waker) are necessarily all based on each other... not intentionally anyway.
Especially as Eyerok came first. The old Andross was just a floating head.

You've got to admit the fact that you have to throw a bomb in the mouth of the stone guardian is a bit coincidental though?

You've got to admit the fact that you have to throw a bomb in the mouth of the stone guardian is a bit coincidental though? Well, you don't HAVE to throw bombs into Andross's mouth to beat him. It could be entirely accidental. It could be intentionally inspired by Andross... The fact is, it's not a cameo either way. It's clearly not a reference to Andross, even if it was inspired by Andross.

But didn't that boss from Wind Waker also use sound effects from StarFox 64?

No, I don't believe it did. Please elaborate on what you mean.

No, I don't believe it did. Please elaborate on what you mean. I seem to remember it using a laser sound from StarFox 64 when it fired the... things from it's mouth. It's been a long time since I played, though. I'm not entirely sure.

I kinda remember the laser-esque attack, but I can't for the life of me remember what sound it made. I'm not even sure if he used actual lasers.
Slowly losing my mind...piece by....piece
