I was reading about Star Fox on Wikipedia and came across this: " ROB 64 is the robotic operator of the Great Fox mothership in the Star Fox series. In the Japanese version of the series, he is called NUS 64. "NUS" stands for " Nintendo Ultra Sixty-four," the original name of the Nintendo 64 system." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_the_Star_Fox_series#ROB.2FNUS_64Is this true?

I think it's unlikely, but possible.

No, in Japan he is called ROB 64. However, in some games he has NUS printed on his chest (I have to recheck the artwork to be sure of which games)... and yes, NUS is the N64's serial code.
Phew, I thought this was going to be another suggestion that somehow ROB 64 is based on ROB the Robot somehow (he isn't).

Because ROB the Robot isn't called ROB in Japan... he's just called "Famicom Robot". And because ROB 64 was named in Japan, it's safe to assume that he was named after the absolutely blindingly obvious fact that the first three letters of "robot" are Rob.
Seeing as the two bare absolutely NO resemblance to each other, I do not consider this a cameo at all.

It´s similar at how people think that Ness name is a cameo of SNES even thougth he has the same name in Japan where Mother 2 came out for the Super famicon.
