Hey fans of Totaka's Song. I have just received a very interesting email from somebody ripping the GBS soundtrack from Argonaut's Game Boy title X - the first recorded game that we know Kazumi Totaka worked on.
He says that Kazumi Totaka's Song, as expected, is indeed hidden in this game as well. He's just polishing up the GBS, and he's recorded an MP3 (though I can't download it at work) and he's playing through the game in search of the song where it appears.
So, if all goes according to plan, this spells the end of the song being known as the "Mario Paint Song" - as X precedes Mario Paint by a few months!! Hoozah! Quite a find.
Going to be quite a few updates to that section in February!

Huzzah! Finally, it will be called Totaka's Song, as it should be!

As opposed to the "Mario Paint Song", like Fryguy said two posts above.

Yes, although NinDB has sent a shockwave through the internet that has seen most references to the "Mario Paint Song" being changed to "Kazumi Totaka's Song" already.
But this will be the final tip of the cap.

Legit as it sounds, I'll believe it when I hear it. With a never-ending stream of e-mails from people claiming that the idle music in Wii Sports Bowling is Totaka's Song, I'm pretty jaded on the subject these days.
I'm also flustered that I've never been able to find a copy of this game on eBay.

Hey, this is the guy who discovered it (check my email), I'd like to clarify something: I did not rip the GBS, it was done by kingshriek. What I meant when I said I was ripping the soundtrack was that I was converting it to MP3 from the GBS. I'm sorry to say that so far I was unable to find where it plays, if at all. I assume it's as well hidden as it is in the other games. I have reason to believe it's somewhere in Mission 4 (the theme that plays when you rescue the scientist is very, very similar to the track Totaka's song is hidden in). I'm certainly not done searching though If anyone else wants to give it a look I can give you translations of all your mission objectives.

Thanks for the clarification! Translations would be good. I've sat down with it but not really gotten very far - mainly thanks to not understanding what I'm supposed to be doing. This is why full tutorials for NinDB would be excellent - but something I'm never likely to accomplish

Now this is starting to remind me of the Konami Code, which people thought they first encountered it in the NES version of Contra 1, while they referred to the code as the "Contra Code". Actually, the Konami Code was first added to the NES version of Gradius 1.
