I always wondered if this was a cameo or not, but here's the tidbit anyway. Most people who have played Pikmin 2 have no doubt come upon this treasure. An interesting locket, they could have put anything in as a picture, but choose a normal dog instead. Why a dog? I didn't know at the time. It would become more clear in 2006 though after Nintendogs came out, but because Shiggy's Dog Pik is a different breed in that game, I thought the two were not related after all. Recently though after reading up on the Shetland Sheepdog, and reading on Miyamoto's Wiki page how his dog is one of those in real life, named Pikku rather than his smaller in-game dog Pik, I decided to look back at the treasure from Pikmin 2, and after almost three years, have decided to put this little mystery to rest and say that the dog in the locket is indeed, Shiggy's Dawg. Because really if it's not Pikku in the locket, who is it?

Isn't "Pikku" basically the same as "Pik"?
Anyway, it seems likely that it is his dog, reading that. Was the dog actually named after Pikmin? Then it'd seem even more likely.

An update, today at Miyamoto's keynote one of the things he talked about was, believe it or not, his dog. It's not a puppy anymore, and from this picture of the keynote it seems he's gotten darker around his head and nose, but still has that brown under his mouth and those big old ears.

Interesting stuff. I'll have to do a little searching on this myself, as we may have a shiny new cameo here

Aw Shiggy's dog again. I love little Pic, same breed as my doggie. near same age too.
I dunno if that's the same dog... if anything it got darker but the colors are almost entirely different. I'd look a bit more into it, the Shelties some of my friends have had and my own have shown it wouldn't be that drastic a change, could be the same breed and not the same one or it's all the same ol' Nintendog. Very cute though. (big dog person)
