I'm not suggesting this as a reference for the site. Rather, I just wanted to bring it up since it's something I've noticed for years and wondered whether it occurred to anyone else. I always thought the beginning of the swamp song ("Bayou Boogie") from Donkey Kong Country 2 sounded uncannily like the beginning of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight". They diverge once the main melody gets going, but they still have kind of the same vibe, and I can't think of any other songs that sound like them. " In the Air Tonight" - This is someone's homemade Shenmue video, but it has better sound quality than the actual music video. A playthrough of DKC2's Krockhead Klamber. " Mechanical Swamp" - From Overclocked Remix. Despite being a remix, it sounds pretty close to its source material. Djpretzel even notes the similarity to "In the Air Tonight". I had never actually heard "In the Air Tonight" until after I had played DKC2, and one day it came on the radio and I thought to myself, "Why are they playing video game music?" What do you guys think? Coincidence, or is Dave Wise a big Phil Collins fan?

This sounds very similar, but those drumbeats are very common...everywhere. I could swear I even heard it in Rayman somewhere...
It's a good song though, most of Phil Collins' are.

They have similar instruments. I used to find notes from a song of Shakira in it. To tell you the truth, I often found some notes from Aquatic Ambiance (the water levels from DKC1) being similar to some in George Michael's Careless Whisper

They probably used alot of ideas from other songs because it was easier to program. Take Earthbound for example all those Beatles's references they even used samples and wot not.

Here's another video showing similarities between artists and video game music.

Another interesting thing you all forgot. The NES Game Snake Rattle and roll's main theme is Elvis Presley's song Shake Rattle and roll.

Haha, not exactly hard to miss though. It was also released on Sega systems, which surprised me. Not a Nintendo game! Noooo!

Is it my imagination or does the Donkey Kong Land Gameboy Boss theme sound a lot like the Blast Corps Skerries song?

Hey, guys... Don't the initial notes in the Muda Kingdom theme sound similar to the chorus of The Beatles' Penny Lane?

I can recognize certain progressions in both Penny Lane and the Muda Kingdom what and I think we found another Beatles reference in a Nintendo game.
BTW - Fryguy64: Snake Rattle and Roll is for the Sega Genesis. I completely forgot Sega made a version.

I am aware of this, which is why it's off my "Nintendo" list.

Actually The entire DKC2 sooundtrack is stylistically similiar to Pink Floyds album A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
