In Super Mario RPG, some enemies resemble other Nintendo characters. For instance... Octolot's bear a strong resemblance to Octoroks in Zelda. Guerillas look a lot like Donkey Kong. There are many reasons that prove this, in Bowser's keep, a Guerilla throws barrels at Mario, and when you use Mallow's Psychopath ability on one, it says "Don't confuse me for someone else!"

The Chained Kong/ Guerilla is without a doubt a DK cameo, especialy given the DK section of Bowser's Keep. The octopus enemies may or may not be based on Octoroks, as they are based on Japanese depections of octopi, so its not really a cameo.

Yeah, Chained Kong even has "Kong" in his name.

Chained Kong looks identical to DK. Def a cameo.

Indeed! Chained Kong and Guerilla are cameos. I'm both shocked and appalled at myself for not remembering them There's also a few more based on - or named - after Final Fantasy enemies. I will have to do some extra work on this game methinks.

He's modled in the style of FF bosses, as he's 2D instead of rendered. His dialogue talks about how he's from another dimension and there's dark knights and stuff there. Also, the victory theme is the FF Crystal Theme, IIRC. Its not the standard victory theme in SMRPG.

Forgot it was. Would Bahamutt count? Its name is obviously a refrence, but is that enough?

He's a dragon-shaped thing. The Hobgoblin/Strawhead enemy looks like a Tonberry, all of the bosses are based on standard RPG weapons, Smithy's the main minions have Fire, Thunder and Water powers, and... I can't think of much more at the moment.

Did Fry mention on the site the Samus, Star Fox, F-Zero, and Zelda cameos? I'm too lazy to check.
Culex's Four Crystals are the four crystals from Final Fantasy: Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire. Likewise, the area where you meet him in Monstro Town uses the "Final Fantasy Prelude" music, when you fight him it's the Final Fantasy 4 (2 for the US) "Boss Battle" music, and when you win it's the standard "Victory Fanfare."
Bahamutt is the ultra-powerful Final Fantasy summon "Mario-cized" and a different name, but that's already been mentioned.
The Monster-in-a-Box concept of a treasure chest mimic can be a reference to FF if you wanna call it one.
EDIT: Oh, wow! I'm "Super Mario" now! ;D

I can't think of much more at the moment. Strawhead, etc., don't look like Tonberries. They're ghosts in robes; Tonberries are lizard monk things. I guess I just don't see that one. I noticed most of the bosses are based off of weapons, but never made the RPG weapon connection. The element stuff is RPG cliche. But it does show some of SquareSoft's FF-ness bleeds through.

I mean, the four element thing (came from ancient beliefs an practisesof alchemy) and the treasure box monster are used, at least in later times, a lot of other RPGs. Golden Sun, for one example.
