Forums have started becoming ancient village communities - cut off from all others and the world around them, forming myths and legends around the few scraps of information that do end up in their often bigoted little minds.
That's why I like NinDB forums - and why I'm stopping you lot from this daft argument.
And if I ever find anyone saying TP is the worst Zelda game, I'd like them to explain themselves, because it's patently false. It's massive, excellent and incredibly emotional and involving. And if they stick by their argument I would point out that even if it wasn't as great as x it doesn't THEREFORE mean that it's a BAD game.
It didn't have Tingle though...

That's exactly the reason why this is the only forum I come to now. Last time I visited another forum (the deviantArt one), the first topic I read was all about how Sony had just bought the rights to The Legend of Zelda. This is spiraling dangerously off-topic, so... Corey! I have a suggestion! TOEJAM AND EARL! Yeah, I've gone on a bit about this game in the (recent) past, but last night I actually dug out the Mega Drive to see whether I was just seeing it through the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia. I had to use an old VCR-TV cable to connect it up, my controllers are extremely stiff, and I was playing with my little brother who can't tell the difference between "Run from the hamster" and "drown in the water", but the game is still a lot of fun. Catchy music, some hilarious enemies and sound effects, randomly-generated stages... I eventually gave up after being cornered by two Boogiemen, an Insane Dentist and a Phantom Ice Cream Truck. Of course, it's not my job to tell you which games to feature. But it is my job to coerce random forum readers into spending money on Sega games! *paycheck'd*

I apologize if anyone feels they've been misled. Since I try to pick games that are at least halfway decent, or historically notable in some way, I suppose that counts as a recommendation. Some of my "raving" about games is meant to sound a bit over enthusiastic. For instance, the "with this game, you're guaranteed to have a ball" comment was there more for the stupid pun than anything. A lot of times, I'm trying to channel the early days of Nintendo Power magazine. The way they wrote about games back then was fun, and it really drew me in and made me excited. Attitudes about gaming now, at least among the serious gamer crowd, can get a bit too political and picky. My aim is to lighten up and enjoy a little innocence and exuberance. It's okay to enjoy the good things in a less-than-perfect game. I would love to be able to play more of the games I feature. $15 a month for unlimited rentals with GameFly is not unreasonable, but I'm more worried about the time. Right now, I'm working my way through Twilight Princess in addition to two or three other games, so my personal gaming time is already spread a little thin. However, I do think my write-ups are a little more insightful when I've had personal experience with the game. So I do what I can. Kirbychu, no problem! It's an open forum. Suggestions are welcome! I'll put TJ&E on my list. I often wonder how much of my opinions on classic gaming are nostalgia. A couple of weeks ago, I showed the movie The Wizard to my 11-year-old gaming-junkie step-brother, who wasn't even born when the thing came out, and he loved it!

I have no problems with the way you write, Corey. You have to remember some people out there will hate any game you mention, and some of those will hate it with poisonous bile. You can't please everyone, so you should never try to. Try to please yourself, and hopefully others will love it. That's how NinDB was born, you know To be honest, I'm bored with my Wii at the moment. Despite Corey's words - I've tried Rayman and found it short-term fun. Red Steel (which hasn't been written about) is not so good - but if you're after a longer term game experience, then Red Steel is pretty much all you have to go for in the UK. I've got my VC games, but can't buy any more until I get internet back. When I do I'm gonna grab Solomon's Key - I was surprised to see it on the list, but then I was also surprised to find out the series has quite a fan following and is considered to be one of the hardest games ever made. Yes that's right - a series. Of four games. It's amazing what you can learn with a little research So my Wii is off, my DVD player is plugged in, my DS is out and accompanied by a ton of games... Nintendo's gonna start losing out if they don't feed the Wii software library just a LITTLE bit faster than this.

That's how NinDB was born, you know I think it's funny that no one seemed to care much when I was doing the Gamecube thread. But now it's official, and suddenly everyone has expectations. Frankly, even I'm surprised at some of the stuff you guys let me get away with. So my Wii is off, my DVD player is plugged in, my DS is out and accompanied by a ton of games... Nintendo's gonna start losing out if they don't feed the Wii software library just a LITTLE bit faster than this. I don't think they were taking into account the people who would blast thru Twilight Princess in a weekend.

Fry: I was not going off on Corey. At all. It was primarily directed at kirbychu. I even stated in my rant that I thought what Corey was doing was fine. It almost seems like you stopped reading about halfway through my post before you replied. Not that I blame you. Anyways. And I didn't say that I hated the game, but thank you for putting words in my mouth. ...I never said you did. Thanks for putting words in mine. Sorry, I just thought this: Was directed at me. If it wasn't, I apologize. GameInformer, Eurogamer, EGM, and GamePro all gave the game review scores in between 50 and 70 percent. Maybe not quite the majority, but I think enough to qualify the game has had "mixed reviews". I was also referring to fan reviews. Reviews on forums frequented by people with similar tastes to mine, who yes, had played the game and not made assumptions. The general consensus I read there was that the single player game was fun but was too short to make a purchase worth it, and the majority of the multiplayer games were just plain bad. So yes, I have heard from a lot of people that the game sucks, and that's why I thought it was odd that it was a feature this week. Or, uh, last week. It's not like I'm going to lose sleep over it, I'm just saying! Okay? Sheesh! EDIT: Wow. I didn't even notice that there was a 7th page. For the record, I still do really like this feature. I had a question about one of his articles, but it was just that, and I feel like it got blown out of proportion. I'm sorry I let it go this far, I didn't think I was being as arrogant and bigoted as I apparently came off.

I think it's time I gave Corey a 3PS forum, where discussions on each entry can take place! ;D

Sorry, I just thought this: Was directed at me. If it wasn't, I apologize. Ah, I see. It wasn't aimed at you, but I can see why you thought it was. What I was trying to say to Corey was that, no matter what game he features, there'll be people who disagree with it. But I worded it extremely badly. Sorry.

Wow. Suddenly I feel so... important. Thanks, Fry! Now I can post each feature in its own thread and use this thread as an index.

That's not true. I wrote a mini-review of MC Kids AND I requested to make a "Official 3rd Party Hall of Shame" (via PM to Fryguy) Maybe not the "only one", but rather "the best".

I think a more accurate way of putting it would be: I care about fun games, regardless of who published them.

I thought Red Steel was great! Then again I haven't played many shooters so I don't have much to compare it to...

It wasn't a great FPS... but it probably falls into the same category as Geist and its ilk... probably would have been impressive around 1997, but now the quality of the competition is extremely high.
When you have Halo, Metroid Prime, Timesplitters and all that to compete with, you have to come up with something very special indeed.
