It's official, but not entirely unexpected. The sequel to NiGHTS Into Dreams is coming exclusively to the Wii. There isn't much info on Journey of Dreams at the moment. It's being produced by Takashi Iizuka of Sonic Team. It's due out this fall. It will apparently have a two-player mode and maybe some sort of online functionality. Here's IGN's article. I've never played the original game (I've never owned a Saturn), but I always wanted to. Maybe it'll be an unlockable or a VC download or something. In any event, I can't wait to learn more about this one!

Hey, I didn't think about it being Virtual Consoled. That would be super-cool.
I'm interested to see how this pans out. I also never played the original, but it was the one game that nearly sold me a Saturn.

I never played it either...my only experience comes vicariously from the post-release hype from fans who HAD played it. I don't even really know that much about NiGHTS, come to think about it...
And the fact that Sonic Team is involved with the project gives me a bad feeling. Don't eff this up, S-Team, because you've already given me plenty of reasons to hate Sonic.

Like everyone else, apparently, I've never played NiGHTS, but I'd play the sequel. I had no idea it existed back when it came out, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Knowing that a lot of NiGHTS fans are also Sonic fans, and that most Sonic fans are super-hardcore-triple-salchow fanboys/girls (with no offense to any of the non-super-harcore-triple-salchow Sonic fanboys/fangirls on this MB), does it make you as hesitant about the new NiGHTS game like it does to me? I mean, I just researched the original on Wikipedia and there wasn't a whole lot of information--but from what I gleamed, you don't really play as NiGHTS himself all that much and spend more time using one of two human protagonists to forge through levels. Considering how most of my NiGHTS information--aside from aforementioned Wiki research--comes from people who "have a friend whose friend has played NiGHTS and says it's awesome" this leaves me wondering what we're all so excited about, exactly. It's like a game of Telephone Tag, if anyone else played it as kids; what starts out as "Mary skipped down the street" with the first person in line could wind up "OH GOD MY TOENAILS" at the opposite end. Why was the original game so cool? I honestly haven't heard a single reason why in all the years I've been around NiGHTS hype.

^ Good point. What I mostly know about the original NiGHTS is that it's actually a somewhat complex game, and you actually need to read the manual to know what's going on. Here's a fairly detailed explanation from Sonic Team fansite The Green Hill Zone. Gameplay footage can be seen on YouTube here and here. I do know that when the original was developed, ST was still considered a good developer. I am a bit nervous about ST now, tho, and I'm wondering if the reason they're doing a sequel now is because Yuji Naka is no longer there to say "no." Still, I'll stay optimistic and save my judgment until it actually comes out.

Hmm, that sort of gameplay does look like it'd adapt well to the Wii, in any case--actually seeing the game in action's alleviated some of my concern. Still, my predominant issue is still with Sonic Team--as you said, the original was done when the group was still sailing clear. And may I say that I like the cut of your jib, Nester <3's Falco? ;D

Hoe many name changes is this guy gonna go through? What's next, Nester-Bert?

It's like a game of Telephone Tag Haha, we call it Chinese Whispers over here. The original has enough praise to make it worth investigating, but, like you, I do have concerns with Sonic Team's ability to bring the franchise back, while simultaneously keeping it fresh. However, if they try keeping it largely 2D then it would definitely be worth a look.

New news: The game will tie into the Wii's Forecast channel, therefore changing the weather. That's pretty nifty. NiGHTS will be able to equip masks that will change his form. For more details, click this link: www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3158483

It means I'll have to plan carefully since weather changes unpredictably here. It's snowing today and yesterday is was 50 degree. The masks sound cool. Underwater is, of course, the natural progression from the sky. I wonder if NiGHTS will be able to go into outer space as well.

Oh, so going by the British weather, it will be grey and raining all the way through... If I wanted that, I'd have bought a PS3

Why did my post on NiGHTS, which preceded yours by about a week, wasn't nearly as popular.
Well, I do know now, that I'm not the one that changes screen names the most, YoungNester.

^ Actually, I thought about posting the news in your thread, but since it's a third party game, I decided to post a new thread for it in here. And the reason it's being talked about more now is probably because the official announcement provided solid info for discussion.
Sorry if I stepped on your thread.

kotaku.com/gaming/gallery/nights-puts-us-to-sleep-259690.phpKotaku has pictures of the new NiGHTS. They show a green, Arcadian (at least in my mind) area; an area that reminds me of Casino Nights from Sonic; and an underwater area. All in all, the game looks good enough. I guess th real test is if it plays well.
