Sorry for posting something that is series-specific, but I want to get the answer to this...
Falco left the team in StarFox Adventure, uh? Then why and when did he come back in Assualt?
I thought he was also gone in Assualt, until I watched a speedrun movie of it... Falco is back, and the 4th fighting member has changed to Krystal. What is all these about?
My sister once messed up with my discs, and when I tried to gather them back, StarFox Adventures was missing. As a result, I couldn't continue the game, and about 15 pounds was written off from all my fixed assets,,,

Ha, it's been months since I last posted! Everything in this site feels so much cooler, sleeker and more efficient than before!
The StarFox Adventures manual makes it clear that Falco left the StarFox team at some point between the events depicted in StarFox 64 and the ones in StarFox Adventures, but he returns at the end of the game to help you defeat the last boss, and re-joins the team in the final cutscene.

Thank you and welcome back. Did the new colour used here surprise you? I knew why he left (4 years before StarFox Adventure, he left because he felt that his relationship with Fox went worse, as decribed in a comic in Nintendo's Japanese site.), but I didn't know he would have made a return - I lost the game at the progress of 16%! www.nintendo.co.jp/ngc/gsaj/history/page/index.html <- Here is the link to the comic

Count yourselves lucky... I'd completed 74% of the game before it got stolen from my house - by which point I was a bit sick of it. I had to replace it and complete it (being a part of my collection, of course)... and had to play the whole lot again.
Bah!
But yes, Falco turns up during the final battle in Adventures and rejoins the team. And Krystal also joins the team, even though she spends the whole game as a damsel in distress rather than actually doing anything useful.
And Tricky... but they leave him behind... it was kind of nice when he returned in Assault (all growed up), but I wouldn't have missed him if I never saw him again.

I thought the reason he left was simply boredom, since they hadn't had a decent mission in years.

He left to pursue a solo career. Nintendo's official SFAdventures website has a comic on it which explains what happened between Lylat Wars and Adventures.
