The remake of the original Tomb Raider, previously only announced for the PS2, PSP and PC, is now also heading to the Wii, according to IGN. Oddly enough, I picked up the GameCube version of Tomb Raider: Legend last week, and despite that it was obviously a quick and dirty port (Ooh! Nintendo fans hate hearing that!), it was actually a pretty fun game, and it left me wanting to see what happens next. Even tho Eidos has said the sequel would be available for multiple platforms, the only one that has been officially confirmed is the PS3, and fans are (reasonably) assuming there will be 360 and PC versions as well. I was starting to worry that Legend would be the last a Nintendo console would ever see of Tomb Raider, so this news about Anniversary is very encouraging. BTW, for those of you who are fans of Prince of Persia, I think you'll really enjoy Tomb Raider: Legend. It's pretty much the exact same type of game with some really good level design. Plus, there's a certain novelty to playing a Tomb Raider game on a Nintendo console.

Hm. I saw this yesterday, but for some reason Tomb Raider has never caught my interest. I think it's the "aura" of Lara Croft's sex symbol status that bugs me. *shrugs* Still, though, it's support from another third-party, which isn't a bad thing.

I know what you mean. Lara Croft always carried a stigma for me as well. Now that I've actually played a Tomb Raider game, myself, I don't think I see her quite so superficially. Lara's "femininity", for better or worse, is pretty much on the same level as most other female video game characters. Sure, her physique is exaggerated, but all of the characters in the game are modeled in that style. At least she's also portrayed as an intelligent, independent woman.
In any event, for the US$20 I paid, Legend was a solid game. Again, if you loved Prince of Persia, then Tomb Raider deserves a chance.

This is interesting. It seems Eidos has gone out of its way to make a live action trailer specifically for the Wii version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary. It kind of reminds me of those old live action Metroid commercials. I was playing TR: Legend on the GameCube a bit last week, and it's still a pretty enjoyable game. Definitely one for Prince of Persia fans. TR: Anniversary will surely be worth a go, especially with the Wii controls and exclusive content.
