BTW, wanderingshadow, did you accidentally leave a 0 or something off the end of your Tapper score? One of my earliest memories--not just of gaming, but of my life--is going past an arcade, hearing the sounds coming out of it, and being immediately drawn to them. And it wasn't even the first time I had encountered on arcade. I would play anything with the words "Pac-man" on it, but I was also a fan of Q*Bert, Dig Dug and Donkey Kong. Oddly enough, I was somewhat intimidated by certain games back then and afraid to play them as if they would eat me or something. A few years later in the mid 80's, I played games at this one grocery store. I recall mainly playing Tempest, Time Pilot and Roc 'N' Rope. There was also a "high-tech" talking Coke machine. By the late 80's, my absolute favorite arcade game was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it still is to this day. Of course, I also enjoyed Konami's other four-player extravaganzas, like The Simpsons, and Sunset Riders. Then came Street Fighter II and the flood of fighting games with it. I stuck faithfully with the SF2 games, but my friend was a big Mortal Kombat fan, and we debated about which was the superior fighting game. The passage of time has allowed me to win that argument. And finally, I will forever associate the Neo Geo with pizza restaurants. I miss seeing arcades in malls, but they just don't really have anything to offer anymore.

One of my earliest videogaming memories was being taken to a youth club one evening where they had a Gauntlet II cabinet. I was too small to play it at the time - I couldn't reach the controls and look at the screen at the same time - but it became one of the games we picked up for the NES! I also remember seeing a VS. Super Mario Bros. arcade and having a go at that. I'd not long started playing the NES game, and it was definitely different... or at least I remember it as such. It may have just been the NES game set up in a pod - but that was uncommon back then. I really hope it was VSMB But that was about it. Arcades died in the UK long before they died everywhere else. You still find one or two machines by the sea or in bowling alleys. It really is a shame. I missed that whole era

Nester: I said that was my high score. I never said it was a very high score. My arcade skills are a bit rusty; I need to get back up to speed.
FryGuy: I remember playing Vs. Super Mario Bros. also. One year, when I was young, my family went camping at a place with an arcade, of all things. I didn't due very well because I wasn't used to playing the game with a joystick.
Also, I feel for you FryGuy. You know what they say: The good die young.

Nester: I said that was my high score. I never said it was a very high score. My arcade skills are a bit rusty; I need to get back up to speed. It's cool. I didn't mean it to sound like an insult or anything, but then I guess there's no way I could've asked without it sounding like one. Sorry about that. And about the joystick thing, I can relate. I used to be awesome at Street Fighter II on the SNES, but if I went to the arcade to play Champion Edition, I was all thumbs! (Pun! ;D )

Heh, my arcade conversions from the Dreamcast varied. I did pretty decent at Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, especially since I don't use the assists. Proudest arcade moment for me is beating 5 or 6 guys the first time I played the silly game. Street Fighter, though...I was younger and had no clue what I was doing. Memories... Anyway, I need to quick buying games and focus on the classics. I bought Odin Sphere and Disgaea 2 (high-fives TEi) over the weekend, and now I'm kneedeep in Okami, too. *sigh* I'll try to get into Midway/Namco soon, Nester. Hey, Capcom Classics, anyone? I know they're non-Nintendo titles, but it is a Retro Arcade Scoreboard!

I broke my Galaga '88 score yesterday, so I decided to update it along with some other scores I've beaten in the past few months.
Galaga '88 - 317,580 - Round 20, Dimension 3 Galaga - 182,750 Galaxian - 11,690
Rolling Thunder - 138,720
Total Carnage - 210,912 - I used warps to get to Orcus, but since I still started on the first level and only used one credit, I guess it doesn't really count as cheating.
Root Beer Tapper - 66,325
RoadBlasters - 46,360 - I'm sure I can do better than this, but this is a decent preliminary score.
Any challengers?

I need to remember to write down my scores. O_X I'll try to tally up some this weekend...if I don't continue to be completely taken over by Persona 3's excellence.

All right, I'm going to try this one last time. If there still aren't any submissions, I'll abandon this thread forever and ever. Fry can lock it and swallow the key. I've reformatted the scoreboards so that each game lists the top three scores. This should take the pressure off of having to have the best score. I've also added a couple of new games that I'm pretty sure at least some of you actually own. You guys voted Metal Slug Anthology as best third party game, so I'm assuming that means you've played it. I've put up a score for Metal Slug 1, but I'll take scores from any game in the pack. Similarly, I've put up a score for Ice Climber, but go ahead and post scores for Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Balloon Fight, etc, if you want. In fact, just because you don't see a game listed doesn't mean I won't accept a score from it. As long as it's a classic arcade game, it's probably fine. Other than that, the usual "default gameplay settings, 1 credit, and first level" rule still applies. (No cheating, now. )
