Maybe you guys heard the announcement for this game awhile back. Although no platforms have been announced, I wouldn't count on the Wii being one of them. Still, I was fan of Street Fighter back in the day, so I thought I'd go ahead and start a thread. There isn't much info on Street Fighter IV at this point. We've got the teaser trailer, which obviously implies the return of Ryu and Ken (as if there was any doubt). A recent interview recommends looking closely at the trailer to get an idea of the "direction" the developers are going in. I got the impression that the trailer was simply a concept video. Judging by the graphical style, perhaps some ex-Clover employees are working on it. Other than that, all we know is that the game is being developed internally at Capcom Japan, and it's being produced by Yoshinori Ono. It's also more than a year away from release. (I wonder why they announced it so early.) This news inspired me to play some Street Fighter III on my Dreamcast. I can't wait to see how SF4 turns out! Any other Street Fighter fans here?

No huge fan here, but I played the Snes version it in the past (and sucked hard(e: I did, not the game ) ). The fact that they're going to give the game more or less the same style as that trailer makes me curious though. It will also result in gonzoing of fans who won't like it. Awaiting the return of 'Superman Bison'.

I love the graphic style of the trailer. It's distinctive, the characters seem so chunky and solid, and... well... what else can I say! If the whole game looks like that, I might even have to buy whatever system it turns up on! Because it's gorgeous.
The old 2D format is looking tired, and SF has never really done the transition to 3D without looking like a poor cousin of the 2D format. This, on the other hand, might be the breath of fresh air the series - and fighting games in general - needs.
As for the timing... take Brawl as an example. Announced 2 1/2 years ago, and the first trailer shown 1 1/2 years ago... and still at least 3 months away from release!

The first screenshot and official info have just been revealed at 1up.com with a promise of more detailed info in the January '08 issue of EGM. The main point is that the game with have 3D graphics with 2D gameplay, and the standard 6-button layout is returning. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Dhalsim are returning characters. For a game that's more than a year's release away, I didn't expect this kind of info so soon. Anyway, I hope they throw some Street Fighter III characters in there as well, like Alex and Ibuki. Of course, I'd really like to see a whole slew of new characters so that it actually feel like a Street Fighter IV. Traditionally, with SF2 & 3, most of the old characters are left behind in favor of a mostly new cast. Perhaps SF4 will buck this trend.

Wow that looks really cool!
I heard SNK is doing the same thing for the next KOF tournament. 3D graphics, but a purely 2d game.

^ Didn't they already to that with KOF: Maximum Impact?
An interesting thing about that screenshot is that the stage looks like a 3D version of Chun-Li's SF2 stage.

^ Personally, I don't think games should be officially announced until about 2-3 months before scheduled release. Anyway, it looks like EGM's info on Street Fighter IV was leaked, which prompted a threat of legal action from Ziff Davis. According to this new info, parrying is being replaced by some new canceling move. Also, there will be "Ultra" moves in addition to the old "Super" moves. Way to kick it up a notch! Also, SF4 is supposed to take place between SF2 and SF3... Yet, it's still called Street Fighter IV. Now. that's mind blowing!

I haven't played a Street Fighter since the Super Nintendo. Hopefully, Street Fighter IV will be a real sequel. From what I gather, most of the sequels to the game are more like expanded versions.

Isn't Dhalsim that cheap arm stretching guy? Goddamn I hate that guy.
Anyway the screen looks damn nice and I'm hoping for some old fighters to show up again so I can be all 'Hey I remember that guy!'

I'm intrigued by SFIV, and it looks much better in motion than stills (Ken's a little off to me in most screens). I am withholding final judgment until the game's released, though. It has promise, that is a given.

Even being shown game footage, you really can't get anything out of it since it's still supposed to be more than a year away from release, and according to the producer, only 1-2% complete. Everything you see could be completely different by the time the game is released, so really, I don't see what the point is with unveiling it so early.

Hm. I must say, this game looks somewhat intriguing. This comes from a Virtua Fighter fan.
