...but do I not see a single mention on the SSB cameo page of the title for the original and series itself being named after a certain battle hit sound in the Mother series? The announcer makes it clear as day, and I'm sure it woulda been there... maybe I'm just not seeing it, Fry?

I think you're looking too deeply into it.

Not really, it's a clear reference once you compare.

All that's clear is the announcer says "SMASH" with focus on the vowel, and Earthbound phrases its Critical Hits as "Smaaash!" It means nothing.

I remember the text itself (with more than one "a" in "Smash") appears in one of the ending artworks as well (it's Luigi's I think). It's still less significative than "Super" and "Bros." IMO .

Sounds like the word "Smash" which is exactly what the game is about to me. If it is related to Mother, there is absolutely nothing to confirm that it is intentional.

Maybe Smash is just one of those English words they really really love over there? Like Super? And Bros?

And don't forget "Zelda," too. And "Legend" has appeared on a few titles as well.

Well...Smash is a common word there...I believe, BUT it would make sense...This is a Nintendo crossover game...I don't know, I think it's just a coincidence.

The main flaw in the concept is that there's no proof connecting the two. The second biggest flaw, though, is the fact that "Smash" is not accentuated when pronounced in SSBM (the stress is on the "Melee" instead). There's just nothing to cameo here.
