For "original SSB items", they should introduce the Chipote Chillón (probably under another name), a comical plastic hammer that makes funny sounds and appears in Latin American sitcoms and various anime shows. It'd be called the Piko Piko Hammer, since that's the Japanese name for them. And then most people would label it a Sonic reference, even if Sonic doesn't appear in the game.

^ Yeah, that's the hammer Amy always uses.

Konami's Twinbee also uses one: No clue about its name, though. That name I gave it formally means literally "Squeaky Mallet", so since Nintendo already used "Squeaky Mallet" in Mario Power Tennis, it's more likely to appear that way (assuming such an item is used).

It was an item in a Mario Party game too. They're basically common in any and everything

I just thought of a couple good items...
MegaVitamins Let's you throw pills like Dr. Mario!
FLUDD Lets you hover and shoot jets of water at your enemies. The hovering can be used if you fell off the stage.

^ I've heard suggestions for the FLUDD before but not the megavitamins idea. It's a good idea.
What about the crazy (i think it was metal) soccer ball from Super Mario Strikers Charged. You won't pick it up, but you run and kick it and it could split into more than one ball if you run into it or do a powerul attack near it. So it it could more opposing fighters over a larger area.

I figured that if they would get rid of the clones, they could at least add something that they could do differently as an item. Thus, MegaVitamins. The soccer ball also sounds cool, it be like a free for all, everyone dodging the balls...what is that called again?

HERE WE GO!
Enemy Orb Like the Assist Trophy and Poké Ball, but enemy characters from Subspace Emissary appear once picked up/thrown (eh, take your pick). It has a 1% chance...no, 10% chance of a boss character appearing. Their behavior is redone to work in the multiplayer environment (i.e. Petey lacks cages, but attacks anyway without them).
Buster Blaster (not Bullet Bill Blaster) (Smash original, on top of that) Ah, kind of a stronger version of the Super Scope.
