I'm going to delve into a little bit of speculation here, which I hope comes true (as quite a few of my guesses have been good as of late!)
If all the third party characters were unlockable, wouldn't it be cool if you got a "pack" when you unlocked them - not just the character, but a stage and an item from that characters' series, and also a bunch of assist trophy characters from that third party company.
For example:
New Challenger: Pac-Man (Namco)
Stage: Pac-Man World
Item: Power Pellet
Assist Trophies: Mappy, Taizo Hori (Dig-Dug), Gilgamesh (Tower of Druaga)
These would all appear at the same time - the assist trophies would not be announced, but would only start appearing after you unlocked the character in question.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Its an interesting idea, but I could see them stretching out the unlockables by having everything separate. Also, I don't think its too much of a stretch to suggest that having Sonic will mean there is a Tails assist, but would it necessarily allow for a NIGHTS or Aiai or Alex Kidd? I'm not so sure - I mean, Snake is there due to Sakurai's relationship with Kojima, not due to his relationship with Konami - so does Snake's appearance open up space for a Simon Belmont or not? Who knows. Furthermore, do we think we could get assist trophies for companies that don't have a character?
Who the hell knows, I've just derailed the topic. Well done to me.

I always figured Snake was an open door for Konami and, by extension, Hudson. Hence why I always figured the "Big Three" would be Snake and Bonk and Simon or something like that. It would be nice to gain access to their stage, or at least something related to that character. How about a new stage in Story Mode? I'm sure that's how we unlock them anyways, but that'd be awesome. New Challenger: Bomberman (Hudson) Stage: Bomber Arena Item: Pommy (Bomberman Charabom), Hudson Bee Assist Trophies: Max (Bomberman), Milon (Milon's Secret Castle), Bonk (Bonk's Adventure), Master Higgins (Adventure Island) Is that too much?  |

Hmm...I like this idea, Fry! It's ingenious.
Character: Megaman (Capcom)
Stage: Skull Castle
Music: Skull Castle 2 Theme (Megaman 2), Cutman's theme (Megaman 1)
Items: Z-Sabre, Gi (allows use of Hadoken or Shoryuken), Lance
Assist Trophies: Rush (Megaman), ServBot (Megaman Legends), Falcon (PowerStone), Morrigan (DarkStalkers), Viewtiful Joe
The Servbot strikes me as an awesome potential Assist Trophy...that, and a fighting game with some kind of Megaman influence isn't complete without Servbots making a cameo :D

Stage: Station Square (Sonic Adventure [DX on the Gamecube])
Music: Station Square remix
Items: Invincibility TV (restores health)
Assist Trophies: Tails (Sonic 2), Knuckles (Sonic and Knuckles), Chaos (Sonic Adventure)
Chaos could flood the screen which would be very kickass.

Item: Wumpa Fruit (Recovery item)
Music: Crash Bandicoot theme song

Ever since Naughty Dog ditched him, he's had to fend for himself. The games have been sub-par. But if they do put him in, then they should do what you had in mind. DON'T PUT IN CHARACTERS FROM THE CRAPPY CRASH GAMES! But, you know they will. Get used to Crunch, or Crush, or whatever his name is.  |
