So no records are kept with people you don't know? This may eliminate the problem of people disconnecting just before they lose... which may make me actually enjoy playing online!
Me like!

Today's update: Nintendo Wi-Fi ConnectionSorry, but we decided that Super Smash Bros. Brawl won't be playable online! However, it will be used to download special content, so leave room in your Wii's system memory for awesome surprises. Johan, you were so close.

No 'you must roll'?!
Aw, too bad ...
Anyways, I like it that they didn't include the main thing that makes people just play to get the most wins (battle records).

This is excellent. I'm glad that they decided to include online play. I also like that they let you use your Miis as your icon.

Thank god there's no online ranking. It's the reason I stopped playing Mario Kart DS over Wi-Fi; people disconnect on you OR they snake the whole way and you rack up losses.
Kinda blows about the speed thing, but it makes sense. The only people I'll be playing with regularly online are still on the East Coast regardless, so there's no worries there.
Does the icon thingy change your in-battle icon?

The second "With Friend" caption should be "With Anyone"!
This update is like... good, but expected for me.

WHOO! This'll be fucking sweet. I like them ditching the ranking system for anonymous matches, since it gives less incentive for other players to be win-obsessive douchebags. But what really has me stoked is the potential for additional content...does this mean downloadable characters and stages? Win-tastic! Does the icon thingy change your in-battle icon? I don't think so, since the screens of the online matches show the characters' regular icons behind their pictures.

Why is downloadable content such a big deal? To me, that sounds like a bad idea... and won't be fair to people who bought the game but don't have an internet connection.
All the game's content should be on the disk itself. The only thing I'd settle for are downloadable trophies or other collectables.

This is just AWEEEEEEEEEESOME!!!!11111oneoneone
It does kind of suck that there is lag between distances, but it's better then Mario Strikers Charged who wont let you play cross countries X(. Hopefully, they fix some lag issues, so that we can all still play together.
At the very lease, I can play Fliptroppa and parrothead (east side). Anyone else live close to Florida. Actually, I wonder if I'll conntect better to the UKers.

Heh, we guessed quite well, it seems. Kudos to those who nailed it.
Wi-Fi isn't a huge incentive for me, but I'm glad it's there. Any U.S. west coast folks on the board?

It doesn't specify the amount of lag. I imagine it will improve over time as well, as the servers become inundated, they will have to up the ante a little Who knows, you MIGHT have no problems at all.
