What is the Home-Run Contest? It’s a competition to see who can hit Sandbag the farthest in just ten seconds! You see Sandbag and a character on the platform. At the start, it’s just you and Sandbag.
Then you just beat Sandbag silly, filling up his damage meter. There’s only a 10-second time limit! Before time runs out, grab the Home-Run Bat on the ground and do a smash attack with it!PWANG! You launch him!Fly! Flyyy!Compete for longest distance.Flight distances are recorded for each character. Go! Break the record! Set your own!!
But this time... there are four differences!1: The stadium platform is protected by a shield.Whoa! This nice feature keeps you from falling. If you don’t put some force into it, you won’t break through the shield, so you can pummel Sandbag to your heart’s content. Surely this will allow you to string together new combos.2: Two players can play together. As a tag team, you can challenge yourselves to set even greater records. You’ll have to work perfectly together, though.3: Two-player alternating play.Compete for distance in two matches!Ah, competition—that’s what the Stadium is all about. Players compete to see who can hit the farthest.4: Online competitions. You can’t tell from this shot, but this is an online match. This option can be found under With Friends. And it supports both the two-player cooperative and two-player alternating modes.
This is some rather rich functionality. You’ll be able to play just this mode quite a bit. Amazing, isn’t it?

Neat update, cool features, but all in all pretty tame. Hopefully tomorrow is a bit more interesting.

Yeah it was not much of an update. It's nice to see that they added new features to make it interesting and easier such as the shield addition.

Pretty Lame. There should of been two updates, this and Sonic final Smash may have made it a little better. But it's nice to know there are more ways of playing this mode.

Wow..... aren't we spoiled?
You kidding? Look at the new features! This proves that Brawl will have some amazing replay value even for 1P modes, even more so than Melee.
2P Home-run contest means we'll see some REALLY amazing HRC records eventually. And the sheild gives the freedom for bigger combos... and makes the mode less annoying for practice.
And it's another online feature!
Many were afraid that with the inclusion of the Subspace emissary, they would completely forget about Stadium modes and other 1P game modes that made melee so fun. This update relieves that doubt, and gives us all a glimpse at some of the new ideas being put into these modes.
This IS an interesting update! And look! It's another NEW thing! We're all expecting updates that we know about, like the items/assist trophies from the demo, some final smashes and Norfair.. If anything you should be grateful they brought back the Stadium.

If anything you should be grateful they brought back the Stadium. Ahh... your right. I'm just a little upset because we really don't need to know this now. Can't we find it out for ourselves, like a suprise.

2P Home-run contest means we'll see some REALLY amazing HRC records eventually. I've seen proof of people getting >3000m in Melee's HRC, so I'd imagine we could see records of >5000m possibly. I like the idea of having a shield this time around. And versus play/online play sounds cool.

They're really making a lot of 2 player stuff, in case you don't wanna brawl one on one.
Here's hoping for a 2-4 player board the platforms!

Hooray! Sandbag is confirmed!
I like the idea of a shield. I had a habit of falling off the platform, so this should help me out.

Pretty cool. I always hated HRC because I could never do good in it. Hopefully I'll be able to this time.

Hooray! Sandbag is confirmed! Sandbag was confirmed all the way back when he announced WiFi play, since you can pound on it while waiting for a match to start. Anyway, kind of a boring update, but after last week's series of bombshells (for good or ill) this is kind of necessary. I'm sure we can expect a lack of a new/returning character this week as well. We're just fortunate that we got such a sweet level as New Pork City yesterday.

Update is pretty good. Nothing amazing, but I'm satisfied.
They improved on this mode a lot. Man, this game is going to be a lot of fun.
