Masamune - that cartoon is absolutely correct! You get three FryPoints.
Bastard is still a touchy word in the UK. It's got a much stronger meaning over here though. But it's also perhaps the BEST swear word, because it doesn't sound too hard or too soft, and it just rolls off the tongue.
Especially when said in a Basil Fawlty voice.

I know, right? It's my favorite word to say because I love to use it in an affectionate tone. And it's usually more like "Bastids".
Well one side of my family is British, so I'm aware of the connotations it has. In fact I know some people who would be offended if I ever said it around them. But in general? Most people don't mind.
In any case, I never use 'gay' as a derogatory term unless I'm talking about homosexuals. Oh ZING. No not really.

Gay is pretty much the American slang for "lame" now, and there's really not much to do done about it. Kinda like how b-itch isn't as gender-specific as it used to be, or took on meanings like "to complain" as a verb or "awesome" when used to as an adjective with -ing.
We English-speakers are silly.

But it looks stupid. That's my thought on it at least (his facial expression didn't help either). See, I think it looks absolutely fantastic. I was expecting the game to be really lame by disregarding the fact that Sonic can't swim, but not only did it remember it, it turned it into a hilarious in-joke for the Sonic fans.

Yeah, it's fine in that sense. IO didn't mean that the life suit was stupid. I meant he looked stupid.

You guys are gonna make Sonic cry! On a serious note, Americans use the term gay (how derailed did this topic get? ) as a just a way of saying something sucks. No one here ever gets offended by it.

His facial expression looks great to me. He's waving to the crowd, and grinning at them, but also frowning slightly, so he looks confident and cocky, as he should.

"No-one here" as in where you live, in the United States, or on this forum? Cause I fit the bill on the last two of those three and I find derogatory use of the word offensive (depending on who uses it and how much of an asshole they're being).

Okay, yeah. Then the "nobody here takes offense" thing doesn't really hold water...it's just that the people who do care can't match the people who don't in volume. And oftentimes in stupidity (but not all cases).
Though really, Gay/Lesbian Rights activists can be pretty dumb too. When I was in high school, I spoke...I think four times for our Gay/Straight Alliance. And the last time I made the mistake of telling our audience class that "not every gay person is a stereotype," and in response, the club called me homophobic. Idiots. I'm sorry I tried educating the other students instead of spewing random babble about acceptance.
Hell, everyone's dumb. I hate everyone. Except the people I don't. XD

Wondering why this was serious business to you Tei, then it hit me like a sack of bricks. DURR
I'm sorry I offended you, but that was clearly not the point. You, I and the American people are the victims of language evolution. Internet Memes and slang are no different. A meme comes though constant use. Some idiot post some crap over and over till everyone starts using it. Slang's the same way as one person will say something stupid till everyone says it. How else could "dawg" be a greeting and a pronoun for a friend.
Ratard is the same way. One who is retarted has an IQ below 70, but the word is used for everyone who has a mental (or not seen) disablility. Despite the fact their IQ could be higher then the person saying it.
I didn't mean Sonic was homosexual, or even happy. The life vest was a nice touch, but I found his facial expression kind of doopy.
Again, Tei, I'm sorry to offend you.

Dammit Smash, look what you started! Wow TEi, that story is so true. I remember giving a speech about the slave trade, then made a mistake of calling "African-American's" black, and was accused of being a racist! Sure the English language has been littered and destroyed over the years in mostly America, but isn't that what separates us from other countries? We are able to say what we want and openly criticize (and be criticized) whenever we want. If you take offense to the term "gay" or "retard" or hell, even ...hell!, I will respect your wishes and not use those words around you, or anyone else on the forum. Unless I feel the term is fitting. Now, let's get this topic back on track...please?
