Personally, I think Trainer/Pikachu would be a good combination. The Trainer sees a "wild" Pikachu and attempts to catch it. No matter who you play as and win with, however, they are interrupted by a wandering Waddle Dee. Trainer wonders what kind of Pokemon it is and Dexes it, only to find the whole forest littered with them. A stage ensues with food and other goodies galore. Follow the trail and at the end of the level Trainer and Pikachu fight none other than King Dedede They dispatch him, but in the process the character you didn't play as is lost and the other joins the big penguin, who points to the Halberd in the sky above as disturbing the peace in his kingdom--he needs a new place to rule. Dedede and Pikachu/Trainer go off to the next world, and the character left behind is found by the Primids. As they are dragged off, the image of Mew silently watches from behind... Good lord I LOVE that idea. <3 You should write out the entire story for the SSE, Flip. I'm not kidding. Yoshi and Kirby: When the Arwing crashes onto the Halberd, Kirby and Peach (or Zelda) are blown away, and seperated. Later, on Yoshi's Island, Yoshi comes across the unconcious Kirby, and curiously sniffs him. Just then, enemies appear from the bushes - a horde of Kremlings! (a guy can dream, can't he?) Yoshi bravely defends Kirby, and just then, Kirby awakens and joins the battle. Just an idea...not all that awesome, though. I'd love to see Link and Samus as well. It would be an interesting pair. We also have yet to see Link in the SSE other than one screenshot... That would be awesome with Yoshi and Kirby, BUT there's a video that already shows after the Halberd that Kirby and Peach/Zelda end up in Orange Ocean :/ Yoshi pairs with Link in that one screenshot, so my guess is that at some point Yoshi ends up in Hyrule. Imagine Link riding a Yoshi across Hyrule Field XD Another good combination: Wario and Meta Knight. How could that NOT be awesome? Wario makes it off with Zelda/Peach trophy on his motorcycle, just barely missing the explosion of the arena. He lands in a vast desert, and laughs as the arena explodes overhead. Wario envisions money and treasure of all sorts when he turns Zelda/Peach over to the Primids, when he sees something zoom overhead. He freaks out, thinking it's some sort of crazy sasquatch or something he can profit from, so he takes off on his hog to pursue it. Follow with a bitchin' motorcycle chase through the desert, trying to catch with the mysterious creature: none other than Meta Knight! Wario leaps to tackle Meta Knight, but Meta Knight disappears and dashes up into the sky. Wario growls and readies his crazy trophy cannon to take out Meta Knight, but the ground begins to shake and he is knocked on his ass by Groudon--awakened and pissed off. I guess the next step from here would be Meta Knight coming back to save Wario, but then leaving with Zelda/Peach after the battle and Wario getting angry and left alone in the desert. Meta Knight and one of the princesses is a cool idea too.

They must've read my mind, because one of the ideas for my Nintendo RPG (which was incidentally patterned on Namco X Capcom, another wacky crossover) involved some pretty mismatched pairs. My ideas included Wario attempting to follow the same course as the "Dark Alliance" in order to get the power of NOVA for himself, and when DeDeDe overcomes the Dark Matter possessing him, he flees and runs into Wario. They then proceed to form a team and act as the comedic recurring bosses-turned-goodies later on. Don't know if that can be translated to TSsE's storyline, but whateva.

In past screenshots/videos (can't remember), we see Mario fighting Petey Piranha as well. I suspect you pick one or the other to play as at the beginning, fight each other, and then the storyline kicks off. Whichever one you choose determines who you will play next in the storyline. So Pit finds Mario, but if it's Kirby who gets blown away, he might be found by someone else. It really looks like character choices will play a big role in how the story pans out, and I have no doubt there will be incentives for working through every one of the possible stories I noticed that too. So, if you use Kirby first, he gets blasted away. You already said it; the game will change drastically from who you chose. It'll be great. I'm not a fan of the pairing since the teams will get much larger. As of now, teams are three at most, and that's only because in one vidoe, it showed three lives(thus three characters). Wonder how long this game will be?

I say SSE should be made into some kind of manga.
Oh yeah, and I also think that Wario/Dedede would be a good team.

Just saying.
Ness and Lucas? TIME PARADOX.
Had to do it. Hm. Sakurai knows his games well as Diddy's down to every touch, Fox too. I'm surprised no one talks in the main story but... it's still fitting for Fox.
Wario better be betrayed and lose all his pay or something because Wario hasn't been a villain since 1995. He's more of a greedy asshole, like Dedede but with money over power and food. Dedede isn't really evil, never was. Dark Matter/0 take the place of that, and some one-timers like Marx and Nightmare Wizard.
Bowser...used to be so cool, a villain. The last game he was good at being evil in was Paper Mario, in my eyes. Now he's a pathetic wannabe who's more for falling around "comedy". So I wonder how he'll work in this, he probably isn't hungry for bananas like K. Rool.

He's in a freaking hottub in the second one. Though I will agree with you on his appearance in Galaxy.

Hmmm...I wonder if the mere existence of Subspace Emissary deconfirms Young Link.

Link & Young Link Battle? Mario & Dr. Mario teaming up?
Obviously the time-space continuum is smashed and you got to fix it!

That would be a cool team to see, but a neat idea would be to have the choice of getting JP or Snake as your partner for a level in which you have to sneak around in. JP could sing the guards/enemies asleep while with Snake you could just try to sneak past them. That's not Smashed Bros! This is Smashed Bros or the victory scene at the end of the SE.

I'd like to see both Link/Pit team up and Kirby/Pikachu vs Pokemon trainer (who mistakes Kirby for Jigglypuff).

I say that, if anything, Assist Trophy characters should be integrated into this story as well.
Granted that SSE is a different game from standard multiplayer Smash in itself, the rules would have to be shifted accordingly somehow (I doubt Final Smashes will be available here). Maybe they can be NPC allies or just appearing in short scenes like these to aid/attack characters.
