Wow! Another SSB Dojo Update! This time, ________ is confirmed playable! I want at least 10 more characters!
Does this sound familiar? How many people do we have for SSBB now? 25? It just occured to me: as you want a dozen new characters, are you going to play as any of them? If say, you wanted, Sta(r)fi, are you really going to play as him beyond once or twice? If you want a dozen characters, would they be used? Just ask yourself that...

Um... yes? I generally select "random" on any game that will allow me to, because I like to use and become good at playing with every possible character. The more the merrier!

Certain game series need proper representation in Nintendo's flagship all-star title. Look at Donkey Kong and Kirby. They finally have their all-stars in there over just being the main characters. If Bowser and Ganondorf got in Melee, Dedede should be in. If Luigi is in, Diddy should be in. It's fair to have equality or at least, give some games like F-Zero and Mother some good representation. Ness and Lucas would be nice, but another would show it's being loved. F-Zero is a good series and giving it one character after being in two previous Smashes seems unfair. I can understand Pit and Ice Climbers and Wario but... not F-Zero.
Yoshi's a bit too chained to Mario to deserve a second character, but if they put Kamek in it wouldn't be TOO bad.

Depends if they're any good! Everyone has different play styles. Hell, I ended up as a Jigglypuff and Shiek man, and I never saw that coming.
But why are you asking this question? Do you think we're simply asking for playable characters for no good reason? That we simply want a big number of characters rather than decent characters? That we're trying to fill some "obscure" or "popular" quota to pacify our rampant fanboyism?
If that's why you're asking, then don't be daft.
All of the characters I am waiting for now come equipped with unique fighting styles, unique personalities, and a wealth of item and stage possibilities. With the added benefit, that so far the Smash series hasn't tapped a single one of them!
But if I end up playing through the game with one or two characters because they're who I'm good with... that doesn't mean I'm not going to ever play with the others.

My friends and I often player random matches or themed matches, so all characters will definitely be played as. It's a lot of fun because I went from being a Kirby guy to getting really good with Falco (who is my best character by far), Jigglypuff, Ness, Marth, and Captain Falcon and not really playing as Kirby much anymore.

I didn't realise people actually play Smash Bros, I thought people just what content was in there so they could predict trends that Nintendo is likely to follow this generation.

I'll put it to you like this: I've spent the bulk of the last six years mastering Falco in Melee, while having Mewtwo and Captain Falcon as my second-bests, but I think about two or three years ago, I started "thinking outside the box" as it were. I may not be a huge Ice Climbers fan, and I may recognize them as my worst characters, but I've still played as them on multiple occasions. Love Falco and Captain Falcon and Mewtwo as much as I do, after a while playing as one of the same three characters repeatedly gets boring. Which is why I love Brawl's super-roster; right now there are a lot of characters I want to play as and I can see myself becoming equally good with all of them. (They are, FYI, Fox, Wario, Meta Knight, Pokémon Trainer, Snake, Ike, Bowser and King Dedede.)
I think at this point, though, all my time with Melee has let me to realize the fun of playing characters I dislike or am not skilled in using. Once, my friend and I--who are on equal skill levels with our mains, Falco and Pichu--decided for the hell of it to swap. I was Pichu, he was Falco, and it was actually a really fun match, despite it not being our most graceful. There's a certain beauty in that sort of mis-match.
In any case, I do plan to very frequently play all of the characters I've been craving, and many of those I didn't see coming.

I'm playing as all of them. I spent a lot of Melee mastering all of the characters. There are a few I still suck at coughRoycough, but I'm can win, or compete, with most. I plan to do the same thing with Brawl. Don't be surprised if I pull out a lot of different characters. Actually, I'll probably use the PAL people to train up with my weaker characters (as you guys get the game later).

Hmm...
Well...while there are characters that I play much more than others...I think I appreciate the abundance of characters in general in the game. I mean...if the game's roster consisted of only the characters I used often, it would be a very empty game. And still, I hate using the same character over and over. If you fight me online, one match I may be Diddy, the next Yoshi, the next Bowser, or Dedede or Trainer...or I may surprise you with a character I don't use often! XP
For fun, sometimes, I like to just pick a random character, usually one I don't play as often, and try them out. I had recently done this with Samus, and I realized how much I liked using her.

I'll play as all of them, too. I always pick random, even though I know some characters have more advantages than others.
There are some game series from Nintendo and guest companies that I don't know or like, but it's a nice bonus when you know those characters / stages / items / other content beforehand and see them forming this kind of game.

I'll play as all the character that are avaliable to play as. In the original I owned as Kirby and then when Melee came along playing as Kirby and winning felt really hard to do. So I started playing as Dr Mario and Fox and became really good as them and they were my main. Fox for 1 on 1's (like his trophy discription says) and Dr M for the rest. I played as other characters as well and become good at using them.
My brother on the other hand only played as Link which was quite annoying and boring as well. It also made the "bonus statistics info" (That thing in Melee that tell you which character was a "KO master" or a "Knock out nelly") had every title belong to Link (except for "2nd most played character").

I start with Mario, and play every character in line as far as age in the series goes. For Melee, I saved Bowser, Peach, Ice Climbers, and Zelda/Sheik for the end. Well, technically I saved my main, Yoshi, for last. But, regardless, I unlocked Marth awful quick ^_~
I figure I'll do the same for Brawl. I really wanna play Diddy, Wario, and, of course, Pit to see how they feel. Dedede may also be in order. But I do envision myself playing quite a handful of characters as "mains" and knowing how to use the rest. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I bothered to play as Zelda for once (and I absolutely refuse to use Sheik, on principle ;p). So who knows: something like Ivysaur could actually be really cool.

In melee I tend to play with everyone except for Pichu (because he sucks IMO), Samus and Mewtwo (because I suck at them). But mainly I tend to play as either DK, Dr. Mario, Luigi, Roy, Captain Falcon, Link, MR G&W and Ganondorf.
In Brawl, I envisage playing as everyone except for Sonic.

In Brawl, I envisage playing as everyone except for Sonic. Whenever we're have a Wi-Fi battle I'm going to pick Sonic Other than that I always pick random, unless someone picks some 'high tier' character. You don't need to be a tier expert to know that Kirby vs Marth won't work out.
