But why are you asking this question? Do you think we're simply asking for playable characters for no good reason? That we simply want a big number of characters rather than decent characters? That we're trying to fill some "obscure" or "popular" quota to pacify our rampant fanboyism? If that's why you're asking, then don't be daft. You hit the nail on the head, right there, man. I don't know what got into me...but from what I could tell, it really did seem that way. I'm not a Smash man myself (though I play it whenever I have a chance, which is not much) |

I've seen many, many suggestions that would make for awful playable characters. Luckily, I trust Sakurai to pick and playtest characters with the highest focus on quality and a number of other criteria none of us are probably able to understand.
I don't just want Takamaru and so on BECAUSE they're old, obscure or Japan-only, but because I don't think something should be ignored in a game like Smash simply because it's old, obscure or Japan-only, if they'd make a unique and interesting character to play as. I mean, Nazo no Murasamejou is a great game, and would have been awesome on the NES. Then everyone would know who Takamaru was, and maybe... just maybe... he'd have appeared in the series already!
There's so many options available now though. Boss characters, Assist Trophies and so on give even more characters a fighting chance at appearing.
