The year was 2006. The place; E3. The game? Brawl. In the begining there was much speculation. Who's in, who's out, who's new. Days made and hopes dashed. Getting both the expected and the unexpected.
Looking back on the first days of the game's unveiling, I remember thinking so much about Snake, and who else would be in the highly wanted and scarce 3rd-party slots. I thought about what items and stuff they should include, and saw things I hadn't even thought of. Characters I never thought would make it got in. Even now, so close to the Japanese release(and what would have been everyone elses no thanks to delays)there is still much speculation, although less heated now than back then.
What was your first impressions and hopes for the game, and what are they now? Have they changed or stayed the same? For better or worse?

First impressions and hopes: Brawl would be the most epic and amazing game I have ever laid eyes on.
Has that opinion changed? Hell no. =D
In all seriousness, though...quite a few characters showed up that I expected (Meta-Knight, Wario, Pit, Diddy, Dedede) and a few I didn't (Trainer, Olimar). I had high hopes that Adventure Mode would be improved upon, and lookie there, we got the SSE, which looks positively EPIC. Lots of other things here and there that I don't feel like listing.

Ever since the release of Melee I've had my mind on how it could have been improved. When Brawl was first revealed... I dunno... I think my heart raced for a few days, and I must have watched that intro video over and over again. Sakurai put so many things into the game that I wanted so badly (bigger adventure mode, boss battles, assist trophies, stage arrivals, Pit, Wario, Pokemon Trainer, etc. etc.) that I shifted my expectations towards the obscure, just so I had something to wish for! I am as excited now as I was then. Possibly more so, as it's just around the corner ;D

It's been 2 long long years. I hated Snake, but not because of the idea of 3PC, but because I was enraged that Sonic was not the one to get the honor first. Right now I'm a little bit confused because we had another and this one unexpected delay and really lost all trace of emotion because I have been checking everyday almost religiously the updates in the dojo and they just had to announce a new release date in a very important date for me. Also the new date conflicts with a week of exams so technically I'll be playing another week after that if I can get one. (No preorders in my country). Still I'm guessing it will be one of the best expiriences in my life.

with the initial trailer i was incredible exited but at the same time confused (Meta knight got in but Dedede not!! Zero Suit Samus, cant they come out with a better character?? Wario is not wearing his traditional clothes?? SOLID SNAKE with so many Nintendo characters still not in the game they throw in one of the most anti-Nintendo characters ever!!)
But eventually all of those got fixed, Brawls got the nearly perfect lineup (still with Snake.

Since Brawl was announced I think I've eaten an entire Humble Pie all on my own. ;D
First, I never thought a third party character would ever get into an SSB game, and then we have Solid Snake right at the end of the premiere trailer. Goes to show what I know, right? (On a partially related note, I insisted so earnestly that it couldn't happen only because I didn't want Sonic in an SSB game. Snake helped soften that blow by a lot.)
I also assumed WarioWare, Pikmin and the original Star Fox were crap games simply because I wasn't used to playing the first two and I never got to fully enjoy the third. Now WarioWare is like crack cocaine and I've started the first Pikmin today - I have to say, both are very excellent series well deserving of recognition. (I also tried Metal Gear Solid and found that, while I appreciate the games for what they are, I'm teeeerrible at them XD )
I too was a mite disappointed that King Dedede didn't get in, but in all honesty - because I missed out on any consoles before the N64 - I didn't even know much about Meta Knight to begin with. (This wasn't helped by the fact that he wasn't in Kirby 64 or that Nightmare in Dreamland didn't explain very much.)
But I still think that I'm as giddy - if not moreso - for this game as I was when it first got announced.
