Uh... it doesn't matter. He can do what he wants; he's still using the skeleton of the roster. But where the hell is Wario, man?

I don't understand how someone can be good with Dr. Mario and not Mario. There are really no differences...

There are. Look for them. Besides the attacks, he's not faster, and as far as I can tell, he's not stronger either. Please, enlighten me.

He is stronger. He also lacks a meteor smash.

His Super Sheet move is slightly different to mario's cape (don't try to use it to recover as it's pretty useless for that) and the Doctor Tornado sends opponents flying in a random direction as well.

1: Goomba (I thought pretty long on this. I was torn between Waluigi and Bowser Jr... but when you get down to it, Goomba is pretty darn iconic. He's the first guy we see when we start Super Mario Bros., after all.) 2: Captain Syrup (Unlike the WarioWare cast, we know she can fight. And since I didn't pick Tetra below, we can use some more pirate! Aside from that, she's Wario's most recurring enemy, so that counts for something). 3: Tingle (Definitely the most deserving. Tetra comes in a close second) 4: Ridley (Goes without saying) 5: Ray MK II (So why here and not the new list? Everyone in this list is super tiny! Just like Ray. How ironic.) 6: Krystal Samurai Goroh (Haha, another Star Fox rep? No.) 7: Mewtwo (Eh, may as well put him back) 8: Isaac (This is obviously the RPG column, so here Golden Sun goes. Ike and Isaac? Fun galore.) 9. Will (Advance Wars rep here), Saki Amamiya (Sin & Punishment. His gun-sword thing should be pretty interesting), Mike Jones (Some US rep! His vast inventory will make his special moves more like Link, with attack moves like Ness), Takamaru (And some Jap. rep to balance it out), Little Mac (A straight brawler for the win!) 10: Random Yes. Two random buttons. Get over it.
And now that I've playified some bosses/assists/enemies... I must replace them!
Generic Goomba - Replaced with Beanie. Why you ask? Because I can. Boss Ridley - Replaced with Kraid. Or Mother Brain. Or both. You fight him enough in SSE... Assist Saki - Replaced with Airan Jo from the same game. Assist Little Mac - Replaced with King Hippo. Assist Isaac - Er, replaced with Garrett or something. He's the only other one I can remember. Assist Tingle - Replaced with Barkle with the same effect. Such a cute doggy! Assist Samurai Goroh - Replaced with Black Shadow.

Let's see...here's what I'd do. The current roster looks like this, yes?
The first thing I'd do is move Yoshi so he's situated beneath Bowser. I never really considered Yoshi as his own franchise, since even his own games remain very closely tied to the Mario universe; also, unlike DK and Wario, Yoshi still actually appears in contemporary Mario games (Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario 64). That frees up two slots in the "Mario Spin-off Column," in which I'd put K. Rool beneath Donkey Kong and Mona beneath Wario. Both characters are highly relevant to their respective franchises and could have a high chance at a unique fighting style; Mona, in particular, could use a rushed, almost manic method of fighting that involves flinging pizzas at enemies or mowing them down with her scooter.
Next, I'd place Tingle beneath Toon Link. While I love Tetra, I think our favorite man-fairy would be much more unique of a playable character - very much in possession of his own flavor. He's iconic enough to be loved and hated with equal passion by the entire gaming community; there's probably not a single person on the internet that doesn't know about him.
Joining the Disk System column is Takamaru, because we need a fucking samurai, I think. And beneath Olimar goes Saki, because a gunsword sounds like an interesting combination weapon; he sounds like he'd be very neat to play as.
It comes to no surprise from anyone that Samurai GORGOROGORhORHOhrhro goes beneath Captain Falcon and uses a Landmaster the Fire Stingray as his Final Smash, similar to Captain Falcon using the Blue Falcon. Mewtwo re-joins the fray beneath Jigglypuff and Sami, from Advance Wars, takes a place underneath Lucas, utilizing explosives and such; aside from the fact that rockets and grenades and mines are part of her moveset, she would have very little in common with Snake (because, I mean, we already have multiple characters that use swords, psychic powers, mallets and Landmasters lazor guns, so I don't see why multiple ordinance characters would be an issue).
My bonus column would have the following characters: Little Mac, who would use his boxing prowess, size and agility to his advantage; however, he would come with the unique gameplay mechanic of having stamina that gradually drains the longer he's out on the battlefield. Mike Jones, to counter-balance Lucas and other JP-only content, and uses a variety of his in-game weaponry to his advantage. Sukapon, whose limblessness allows for a great range and a crazy, almost dance-like fighting style that involves weak, rapid strikes. Nintendo Hardware Man, a WTF character created by all the variations of Nintendo hardware and molded into the shape of a person, with a Virtual Boy serving as the head. Mr. Game & Watch gets relocated to the bottom of this column, freeing up two third party slots.
Finally, alongside Snake and Sonic, Megaman and Alex Roivas join the fray; Megaman is kind of a given and could utilize his buster, slide and kicking abilities, as well as integrating the weapons obtained from various Robot Masters; his A> could be a Boomerang attack based on the Rolling Cutter, Quick Boomerang or Ring Boomerang, for example, and similar to Peach's A> attacks, each one would have a different range and power level. Alex, meanwhile, fights predominantly with the Enchanted Gladius she obtains near the end of Eternal Darkness; the alignment changes over a period of time, and depending on which one she currently has, she can either hit harder (Chattur'gha), strike faster (Ulyaoth), or cause secondary effects such as flowers or stun (Xel'lotath). Some of her specials include casting Magick from the Tome of Eternal Darkness; these moves are powerful, but the downside is they take a long time to cast and leave her vulnerable to attack. Oh, and the Random button stays. ;D
