Say, the Japanese version is out on 31-JAN, and strting from 29-JAN people start to claim to have the game. That's 2 days from the release. This applies to most Japanese games - having a game 2 or 3 days before release - I once did this with Mario Kart DD.
But for this... SIX days from release!? That sounds an early lekge to me!
Not only that, I also recall BooDestroyer posting trophy description IN ENGLISH here sometime before. I'm curious about how people get to have acces to English version stuff before release.

People had the Japanese version waaaaaay earlier than 2 days before.
Ninty have shipped the game early so that stores are ready for the 9th (as a lot are doing tournaments and the like), some stores have stuffed up and started selling them, others have probably gotten them 'under the table' (they / their friends work at the store or something).

There's a few explanations:
-Stores have already received them to stock up for tourneys/preorders, and some have sold them early against what they've been told (though many, like Wal-Mart and Gamestop, can't because of their computer systems disallowing sales before the launch date) -Employees and friends have walked off with their copies once these stores got them -People from NOA/the Press have their full copies already -"Fell off the back of a truck."
In Japan, the biggest issue I thought was that stores just gave them out earlier than they were supposed to. It's a big enough country where one store can do that and nobody hears about it. Just imagine that x100 for the US.
EDIT: Mario Galaxy was out two weeks before its launch in some parts of the country, I should mention. There's a recent occurrence. I remember getting a few Gamecube games earlier than I was supposed to from Target too.
EDIT2: Another gross example is with the launch of the Wii. A RA on campus who I'm only barely acquaintances with works at one of the 3 game stores in the area as a senior employee. When the Gamestop first got their Wiis for launch, the entire staff called dibs on what they could. I don't know if Nintendo sent enough for that to happen, but a few of them (the RA included) walked home with their Wiis that day and just paid on the honors system after the launch date. It was basically something where they set aside all the Wiis for preorder and the leftovers went to them. Stores do that stuff a LOT.

I read somewhere that some US chain store called Sears broke the streetdate, but then Nintendo gave 'em a call. Quite a bunch have the game already so there's your answer.

So what's the point in pushing the game for one week (24-Jan to 31-Jan) and a month or so in the US? They could have delayed the game and give them to stores later while still launching on the 24th!

I don't know. it's like a fat kid with candy eating it noisily in front of a homeless kid, and just laughing about it.

Sears is not even known for electronics, so that's what makes it so funny. They barely list Nintendo products on their website. It's mostly a department store that also sells tools/hardware/equipment.

Depends on which Sears you wander into. Some areclothes only, some are hardware/appliance only, some mix the two, some add electronics...there's many different kinds of Sears. Odd that they were the ones that broke a street date though. XD

Well, It's is Sears, the company known for the creation of the first catalog . They have a lot of things. They also have TVs and other appliances.

I'm the Assistant Manager at our local GameStop, and I know that with us, when the Wii launched, it was a strict "No Calling Dibs, Period." policy. If you weren't working that day, you could go wait in line with everyone else, but that was it. And this was spelled out specifically by our company, they warned us not to commit any favoritism for our employees. But I guess some of our locations in other parts of the country are less reputable than we are. *shakes head*
