Soooo. It gives 640*480 JPEG. Shame.
And it looks like the picture is pretty lossy too... I'd say it's of about 50%~60% quality...

I haven't been able to play the game yet but my guess is that the replays aren't like video files we watch on the computer, but rather a series of instructions that the game engine follows. For example, player 1 runs left between 0:12 and 0:15, Gooey Bomb appears at 0:42. It seems most likely to me since the resulting file would be far smaller than a real video where every frame is saved as an image. Unfortunately that would also mean that because the replay is rendered entirely by the game, you can't copy the file to the computer and convert it into a video file.
But again, it's just a guess.

When I was trying to find pictures on my SD card there was a 32 MB .bin file that might be it. but if you're right and it is just commands with time stamps that would stand to reason that you could modify videos from a hex editor. Maybe you cant open them on your computer then. A lot of youtube videos are lame in quality anyway, so people are probably just uploading from their TV's.

Also likely that someone will make a video export. Sadly, turning a JPEG into PNG won't give it back quality. What I meant was if Brawl would save the file as a JPEG - so you simply ca't give it back quality. That's why I've always been wanting to capture image digitally, through the HD-15 port. |
