I like the FC / NES idea of making everyone 8-Bit, but maybe that should be an option in the options menu (options in options menu? Crazy, I know) or a Special Mode, rather than an item, since I can't really see how it would be of much use. But whatever.
And since when does Togepi make people float? Is this an anime based thing?

There should be options in the option menu! I know that! Anyways, in SSBM they didn't put in one thing that I want: Metal Melee. Togepi doesn't make people float, but Togepi(s) do(es) float. Loof for Episode #AG45 for more info. (Episode number is according to the Japanese one, not US)

Togepi has Metronome, and apparently latent psychic powers too (Togetic is a decent Spec. Attacker, learning Psychic and a few others like Ice Beam). So, I guess that's why it floats... As an alternative to Pokeballs, I was thinking they could add the cards from Card Hero too. I'd love to lay down the law with some of the funkier critters in that game (whom I don't know any of the names for )

I've got new ideas: Have Custom Robo characters (=Custom Robo's) and items (Guns, bombs, even subs)

Now... I had thought CR characters too, but that would be really complex and difficult, considering they are very very customizable. It would just be easier to have someone like Ray Legend be a fighter, and include maybe a missile launcher or something as an item. At least, with the cards, it's something set in stone that can pop out, do an attack, and leave. Now, using Custom Robo enhancements in battle would be interesting... Suit Mario up with a jetpack or something

Hammer Brother Suit: Go figure.
Magic Wand: Shoots magic at opponents just like Magikoopa's do in SMW.
On a side note, I think Samus should have Power Bombs instead of the Morph Ball bombs.

New thoughts: Tornado ability (Kirby and the Amazing Mirror) - grab it and you can perfoem the swirling attack! Garbage (Panel de Pon) - to attack an opponent. Devil Star (Shadow Star) (Kirby Air Ride) - take it and you'll find yourself riding on it for 12 seconds. You will move forward and cannot stop, and everyone on your way will take massive damage! Bumper (Super Smash Bros) - Just the same as the original Super Smash Bros. I want to see it back. Ultra Hand - Go play Mario Power Tennis and see how Wario use it. This can be used for grabbing distance opponent. Can be used only once. Master Ball - grab back the Pokemon on the stage, and re-use them. Lightning (Mario Kart series) - Shock all your enemies! Now... I had thought CR characters too, but that would be really complex and difficult, considering they are very very customizable. Link is customizable (And I'd rather want to see him using a Mirror Sheild), Samus is also customizable. Just use something that suits SSB and that's OK! But I can't think of which robots and items are good enough to be put in. On a side note, I think Samus should have Power Bombs instead of the Morph Ball bombs. 2I don't see any big uses of the morph ball bombs other than using it as the "revival" move. (By using down-B continiuously, Samus can actually move a bit horizontally, which can be used to come back when being kicked out of the stage. However, the best and traditional way is still using either screw ball or beam.

Actually... imagine being able to choose from a suite of attacks for each character - maybe pick from a range of suits for each as well. Obviously not before every match, but it would allow each player to customise their own "favourites" and keep them stored alongside their player name.

Wouldn't adding customizabilty make the game a little more complicated than it needs to be? But then again, Street Fighter Alpha 3 had something similar, and Soul Calibur III is going to have a very advanced version. Hm...

Well, in the vein of Fry's idea, I had always thought that the next step would be more complex costumes. They already had stuff like "Daisy" and "Blood Falcon," and then there was Dr. Mario as a separate fighter. But I figured that, like games like Soul Calibur, they could include more complex "color changes." Fusion Samus, Tanooki Mario, Oni-Link, Phoenix (Falcon), etc. Not separate characters, and not even new abilities, just fancier suits. Coincidentally (and I forget the forum, though it might've been here), some guy was claiming just that would be the gimmick in SSB Rev. Of course, if you visit ANY video gaming forums, you would know that everyone and their uncle works for Nintendo anyways

Ah, secret costumes? That would be awesome. Giving the secret costume costume a different move set? Hm, I thought of something similar, with Racoon Mario...

Well, what I meant was you could take, for example, Mario - he has a set number of special attacks and various abilities, but you can choose from a lineup of attacks to fill those special attack slots, and also pick one or two special abilities, such as a higher jump, slightly increased power (at the expense of other things, of course). The fancier suits was just an extra idea on top of that. That way there will be a delicate balancing act, where players could take their high-jumping tanooki Mario with Dr. Mario pills, spin attack... and put it against a regular Mario with fireballs and cape deflect. For example. That would mean a lot more available attacks, but no real increase in the complexity of gameplay. Because, frankly, it's confusing enough

How about unlockable items. Think of it. You start out the game with a bunch of items anyway. But then, (like the slot machine that spits out trophies) you could use your coins to unlock more powerful items. TNT barrels; spiny shells(which plows through all enemies on the ground, dealing hefty damage); and uh...powerful stuff!

Sounds good to me - I mean, theres unlockable everything else, surely items are far away.

Orange Grenade -Similar to a bob-omb but bounces twice before exploding (DK64).
Fire/Ice Rod - Shoots out fire/ice at opponents, can set opponents on fire/freeze opponents (LoZ:Alttp).
Pokemon
Alakazam- Psybeams close by opponents for 25% damage.
Muk- Throws sludge all over the stage. Anyone caught in the sludge has their movement restricted.
Haunter- Drains HP from (causes damage to) a random opponent.
