In the event "Diddy Kong Panic" you play as Donkey Kong and fight 15 tiny Diddy Kong's. This is a cameo of Diddy Kong racing, as the level is set in Mario Circuit, and the intro says "Why are these Diddy's so angry, did they lose a race or something?"

Ha! I hadn't thought of that event that way.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this would count, but the Island of the Ancients looks exactly like the Floating Island from Sonic the Hedgehog 3/Sonic & Knuckles. It even has the volcano (Lava Reef Zone) in the background, even though you don't go there.

Angel Island Zone is what you are talking about. And that makes sense, as the song is in the game  |

Only the first zone is called Angel Island Zone. The manual called it the Floating Island, and later games occasionally call it that as well. It was only later it officially become known as Angel Island. And I hadn't thought about both the song and the island being in the game. Makes sense, I guess. If this counts as a cameo, it might be worth of noting that during the fight on the transport ship in the level Outside the Ancient Ruins, the Island tilts in the background similair to how it did during the fight with Mecha Sonic in Sonic & Knuckles.
