You guys remember that there were some tracks left out of Brawl? Well, now they've been dug out, and are here to download, including remixed versions of Beware the Forest Mushrooms and Ballad of the Wind Fish.

Man, it's just depressing we lost these tracks. Beware the Forest's Mushrooms. Ballad of the Windfish and Hippie Battle Theme are all incredible. I can only hope if DLC comes out later down the line these'll be part of it.

I remember that web page. Those are not 'dug out' from the ripped data or anything though, it's just a bunch of remixed/original tunes they uploadded based on the names of the missing song file names. Basically a collection of what could've been.

This is great! but it seems that they didn´t hacked the songs from the disk(as I first thought) , but that based on the names of the songs on that list they searched for the best versions of those songs they could find, so in other words this are not the compositions done for Brawl Am I right?

Seems to be the case. I am wondering, however, if the idea of extra downloads is quite possible now. I mean... there's some data for 4 extra characters, there's some data for a handful of extra songs... who's to say this isn't just base information the game needs, and we will be able to download the rest of it? Just a thought. I don't really know how these things work. This also ties in nicely with another post I'm about to make

And yes if the extra space it there you just have to make the game look somewhere else for it.

Well, looks like I was over-reaching a little. Turns out that there are various legal problems with some of these songs (and I had no idea, but Mother 2 is also tied up with legal issues right now due to various songs and cultural references in the game - so we may never see it on VC! That may explain why it's not out in Japan yet as well.)
One of the MGS songs is tied up with legal issues... and if this guy's guesses are right, you can pretty much guarantee that there are legal problems surrounding the SMRPG song (although I really think it's supposed to be a M&L song).
Still, NES Sports Medley? Stunt Race FX? Yoshi's Cookie? Awww!!

What culture references/music have gotten Mother 2 tied up? Anything relating to the Beetles? I've heard on NeoGaf when the music first broke that there is a M&L track called "Forest Mushrooms" or something along those lines. Would someone please confirm or deconfirm this? I've no idea how to. (That there is a M&L track called something like that; not that the track is this!)

Well, it's called Mori no Kinoko (which means Mushroom Forest). No game label is tied to it, but I'd be surprised if it was from SMRPG. M&L seems infinitely more likely.
The track listing here is all guesswork. The Torrent download comes with an Excel file listing all the Brawl filenames, and how this guy guessed the answers (also where his remixes are originally from - might have to scour Galbadia Hotel for some of these).

But seriously, this is probably the worst piece of news I've heard since it was announced that SMRPG wouldn't get a european release due to some Nintendo/Square bust-up. I've always wanted to play Earthbound.

I'm guessing it's because of the Johnny B Goode music playing when you fight the hippy. And one of the NPC's looking like Mr. T. And the yellow submarine. This page has a list of the game's references (though some seem kinda far fetched to me).

Just do what everyone else does - buy yourself a good PC controller and play it on an emulator. If we ever get Earthbound with all the pop culture references removed, it will pretty much blow - so play the original! And it's only morally wrong if you haven't paid Nintendo thousands of pounds (dollars, etc.) over the years. Hell, if they're not selling it to me right now, it's fair game as far as I'm concerned!

How dare they leave Ballad of the Windfish out of the game! That melody should at least be tied into the Ocarina Medley, even though its not an Ocarina song. Oh well i guess I can always download them and put them on my iPod!

Ballad of the Windfish, Mario and Luigi, and Yoshi's Cookie don't deserve to be cut, however. Maybe it was just really songs that "couldn't fit"?
I know the MGS theme has legal issues, but Earthbound? Seriously? I think so long as something is in the form of parody it's protected by, at the very least, United States law! It's the reason they're able to do shows like Family Guy and Robot Chicken without getting their asses sued! How the hell else have video games gotten away with Duke Nukem stealing Ash Williams lines, the Munsters car in Twisted Metal, or other random crap like that? I still am taking the paranoid "Nintendo just HATES Mother" approach.
EDIT: Has anyone considered this to be the reason we don't get Earthbound over here on VC?
(from Wikipedia)
"Development
When the game was under development, anti-piracy measures were implemented into the game. At random points in the game, the game would do protection checks to see if an original cartridge is in use. At these points, if the game detects a copier or bootleg cartridge is being used, the built in piracy protection would implement measures that would prevent a player from progressing further into the game.[3]"
I strongly doubt NOA is going to bother "deprotecting" just one game, and seeing as the VC is just another emulator it may require extra precaution to get the game out there and playable.
