I read in a Magazine that Nintendo is making a Mario game called Marionette and hince the name, it got something to do with puppets.
Does anyone have any info about it, or was it cancelled?

Well, it was announced way back in 2001, and since then it has been referred to from time to time. There has been no formal withdrawal of it from "announced" lists, and so we can presume Mr. Miyamoto is just playing around with ideas at the moment.
All we know it's got something to do with a puppet, and possibly nothing to do with Mario.

What about Super Mario 128?

Ah, well, that's been talked about a lot more. While it was the name of the 2000 tech demo, it wasn't announced as a full game until the same time as Marionette.
Super Mario Sunshine was supposed to be similar to Super Mario 64 - just a brother, not a revolution. Super Mario 128, on the other hand, is supposed to be truly groundbreaking (you have to believe Miyamoto when he says this, because he's usually right).
But last year Miyamoto said they've got a lot of bits of it working and going, but at this year's E3 he said that he's still testing out different things - and it may even end up on Nintendo DS or the Revolution console, rather than the Gamecube!
So... once again we may have just one proper Mario game to see us through a whole console generation (Sunshine). Oh well, it's not as if Mario doesn't have a million other games to be in at the moment... like Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Paper Mario 2, Mario Tennis, Mario Pinball, Mario Party Mario Party 6, Mario Party Advance... and probably a ton and a half more...

Actually, they seem to release the original SMB quite frequently But don't forget, we have Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Super Mario 64x4 and New Super Mario Bros. to look forward to. And who knows... maybe Mario 128 will surface soon! (although I doubt it somehow...)

Well I look forward to SM128, whatever it is, and I hope it does offer something new...
As for PM2, SMB (DS) and SM64x4 - I also look forward to these...
Remember though, the DS will very likely have new Mario Bros. platformers that haven't been announced yet, so just keep an eye on that.

I'm still wondering what is Marionette...maybe it was a mistake?

A Marionette is the proper name for a string puppet. People thought it might be a networked Mario game, but Miyamoto confirmed it was some kind of puppet game.
So it's definitely a game of some sort, being developed by somebody somewhere. But whether it will ever become a finished product is unknown.

But then Nintendo would never make more than one Mario platform game that one for every console!
