Given how much effort probably went into all fronts on the game, calling Sakurai lazy feels very unjust. How much other stuff has been improved on, you know? Melee certainly didn't have about a half hour's worth of animated cinemas used in Adventure Mode, or Final Smashes, or stickers. Granted there's an imbalance, and some of the ones that are missing are baffling, but that hardly makes the trophies section a half-assed effort.
You guys ever hear the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none?" I think it applies well to Sakurai here. He put so much effort into every part of the game that he could, that each one fails to reach its full potential. Sure, they're all great on their own - but there are just little flaws here and there that keeps each mode from being perfect.

Yes, but seeing as trophy mode was one of the key selling points of Melee, as it was that game's "celebration of all things Nintendo", it's just kinda disappointing that he's got such a tiny handful of character models. I mean, I thought "Wow! Kyle Hyde?" but he's a flat drawing. At least Ashley Robbins got a 3D model. And those crazy Ouenden and Elite Beat Agents. But where's mah damn classics!? Where my 3D Takamaru, goddammit!!

I did you a favor Fry. I went and took the list from this update and grouped all the entries by franchise. They're still alphabetized within their respective groups, too. All I have to do now is put them in order of specific game release, and then I can send you the list. OK?

Well.... I guess I was just too impatient to wait for you to update the site with it, since I was planning on using that list for something else.
