In the Fourside Department Store, there is a kid by some arcade machines who talks about one day working at APE. APE Inc. is a company that created Earthbound and other Nintendo games and toys. Here are some pics I took.   |

Now that you mention this kind of cameo, there are a few others you might be interested in.
*On the south side of Threed, there's a billboard that says something along the lines of "Located in the shadow of Mt. Fuji - HAL Laboratories"
*Captain Strong tells Ness "At times like these, kids should be at home playing Nintendo games." after catching him at Big Step. After Ness beats him, he says "I've been playing Earthbound. I'm having a tough time."
*A girl on the east side of Onett says "Has Earthbound been released yet?"
*If you say yes when the Sharks ask you to join their gang, they say "Come back after you've beaten Earthbound."

Not quite the same, but meta fictional nonetheless. Early in teh game, a dog gives you a tutorial on how to do things in the game. It's explained that the dog is possessed by the spirit of the game designer, I.E. an APE orHAL employee.

I think this counts as a easter egg, but in Mother 1/EBZ apprantly there is a secret spot (very hard to find apprantly) in the desert that displays this message from Shigesato Itoi when stood on.   Awesome, ain't it? Source. |
