I have a pokemon pikachu color, model number MPG-002 which basically is a pikachu tamagotchi and i have had him running for just over 4 years but now the rechargeable battery is dieing and i need to replace it but as far as i know this will reset pikachu. So i need to find out if there is anyway to replace the battery without turning him off i don't want to give up on him after 4 years If anyone has any ideas please let me know I know it sounds a little sad but i have had him with me everywhere for so long. Thanks

I think you have no choice but to risk it. It's likely you will lose Pikachu and all of the stats you've built up over time... but there won't be any way to "back up" your Pikachu as you change the battery, unless the Pokemon Pikachu Color itself contains a backup. I have no idea if this is the case, but I suspect not. Just remember - it's not a real Pikachu And sometimes it's good to start over from scratch, especially after so long.

Hah, count yourself lucky. The original Pocket Pikachu reset itself after 1,000,000 steps. I know, as I reached that heady figure myself

Do any of you have the colored version called the "Pokémon Pikachu 2 GS" (known in Europe as the "Pokemon Pikachu Color")? I only have the original, black-and-white monochrome version with a dead battery and Pikachu's back facing me. XD

'Cept the colors faded after all these years, and Pikachu's pretty pissed off at me for ignoring him these past...5 years... He won't come out of his Pokeball...

You could use the PP2 to send Mystery Gifts to the Game Boy Color Pokemon GSC, so it was an invaluable little tool. Unfortunately, I can't get away with wearing them as much these days. 25 year old man with his own little Pikachu belt... just looks... I dunno... paedophilic?

I have had one of the original black and white ones as well and if he wont come out of his pokeball that means he's run away and you would need to restart

I wish, I have Pokemon PIkachu 2 by now.
Wild Pikachu appeared! Go Yamato.exe! PIkachu used Frustration! Yamato was annoyed! Yamato used Reset! It's ultra-effective! Wild Pikachu fainted!
If a player doesn't spend time with Pikachu, then that's when things get sour. At least it's not internet-based. I too have a PP1

Hell, I'll sell my Pikachu 2 to anyone who wants it. Of course you'd need to change the battery.

The screen starts fading and it the responses to button presses are slower, if mine were anything to go by. Very common amongst LCD games.

There is an untested way you could make it work.
Get a portable battery source, a large 18V battery, with a volt changer control and two insulated wires with long prongs. As you remove the battery, change the voltage meter so that the power level remains constant. Put in a new battery, and slowly turn the power down until you can remove the prongs. Try it!
