1up.com is running a week long feature on Shenmue for the (sort of) 10th anniversary! You can find the hub for the feature here. The first article is a preview for " Shenmue World". Yu Suzuki mentions that he also wants to release the game on PC, iPhone, Android and Facebook, as well as release it internationally, but there are no concrete plans at the moment. All I can say is, if there's a US release, I'm there.  |

Although I already mentioned it, nearly every person commenting on "The Worst Game of All Time" episode of G4's Filter are missing the point of the show. They thought it was based on G4's opinion, but it was several viewers that voted on their website.

According to Kotaku, Yu Suzuki casually mentioned at GDC that he thinks Sega might let him make Shenmue III. Is the glacier thawing?

I think he's just trolling. Yu Suzuki hasn't done anything meaningful in years, and I don't think SEGA would give him the money to do it.

Well, you're right about the money. Sega has said in the past that they would want to find another company to fund the game (possibly in exchange for console exclusivity if it's one of those companies).
As for Suzuki, according to an interview he did last December, the reason we haven't seen too many games from him the past decade is because Sega is much more conservative than it used to be (which is true) and they keep rejecting his experimental ideas. (Altho, I think the "window seat" theory could still apply here.)
It's not that I think Shenmue III is any closer to reality, but the fact that Suzuki is revisiting the series in some form (Shenmue Town) is encouraging.

At GDC, Yu Suzuki finally revealed how Shenmue III was meant to end... with help from Mega64.  Never would've seen that coming. |
