Sick. So does that make this a Nintendo property now? Data East did the old games, but I believe they either don't exist or were absorbed by this point. Hang on... Okay, many of their properties were bought by PAON, including Glory of Heracles. Then PAON went on to work with Nintendo on the recent DK games as well as Smash Bros. (alongside Monolith Soft), though they are NOT Second Party (yet). MS, similarly, worked on a few games before being absorbed. Xenosaga I & II did not appear in Smash or anything of that sort, but then again that was still Namco despite MS belonging to Nintendo at that point. I think Heracles has a shot at becoming Nintendo if PAON is fully bought out, however. Although, Nintendo never really utilized Lolo and they totally swallowed HAL... Sounds like Nintendo has another hot property to soak up in their lovely sponge-hands. Funny how it's similar to Kid Icarus in the Greek aspect; though Kid Icarus has weirder stuff going on as well. Makes me wonder... E3 better be frigging fantastic this year

As for the Eggerland debate, Nintendo doesn't consider the Eggerland series to be a Nintendo franchise because Nintendo has never published an Eggerland game. Only HAL Labs has published it.

Hercules no Eikou is the only Data East game series I know of that PAON owns the rights to. The Metal Max series currently belongs to Createch, while the Tantei Jingūji Saburō series is now in the hands of WorkJam. The rest of Data East's games and rights are given to G-Mode; however, I heard that the Fighter's History series now belongs to SNK Playmore due to Makoto Mizoguchi appearing in KOF: Maximum Impact Regulation "A", but I noticed that G-Mode has it in their list here, which is confusing.

G-Mode does own the Fighter's History series. It's just that SNK Playmore has a deal with them to use characters from Fighter's History and Fighter's History Dynamite in SNK titles... well, except Karnov.
Think more along the lines of Sonic in Brawl or Link in Soul Calibur II, people. Every fighting game needs a Guest Fighter, and SNK knows this. =P

He originated from the arcade and SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive game, Atomic Runner (Chelnov in Japan) who later appeared in the Japan-only Fighter's History spin-off for the Super Famicom titled Fighter's History: Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu!! as both, the final boss and unlockable character. Also, the large ox character appears to be the same one from the bonus rounds of the Karate Champ arcade (Karate Dō in Japan). If another Fighter's History game was made, it would probably include another Data East character, like Edward Randy (from The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy) for example. Think more along the lines of Sonic in Brawl or Link in Soul Calibur II, people. Every fighting game needs a Guest Fighter, and SNK knows this. =P Don't forget about Heihachi, Spawn, Yoda and Darth Vader being in the Soul Calibur games. I remember hearing that Dante being a special guest in Soul Calibur III was confirmed, but it appears that it was canceled.

Personally, I think this looks like another of those Final Fantasy/Secret of Mana-type games, of which I'm not really fond of.
Given that, I'm going to wait and see if it's showcased at E3/ learn more about it, before I make any additional comments/opinions about it.
Looks good though.

I don't know if I'd be so optimistic. It doesn't look like any of the other games in the series have made it outside of Japan. You know how Nintendo has a habit of sometimes not bringing to things to other markets.

Quite nice! It reminds me a bit of Golden Sun, especially the fight scenes.

Very strange that this Data East property would be snatched up by Paon and published by Nintendo. Would that be the first time such a thing has happened?
For clarity... I am pretty sure Paon is aiming to be Nintendo's next acquisition right now. Even if Nintendo has other plans... they are sooo trying to get in with the big N. Shameless really!

So, I just watched that video, and after (finally) getting through all that anime shit, I saw the gameplay.
This should definitely come to America. I'm itching for a good handheld RPG.

Well, it looks okay, but like Sqrt said, there's little to set ita part from your typical JRPG type of game. I'll have to test-drive it before I can pass judgement, because me and JRPGs have a bit of a bad streak. The only ones that I like that I've played are Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcaida, Super Mario RPG and (to an extent, if you can count it due to the theme being science fiction instead of fantasy) Megaman X: Command Mission. Everything else has either been remarkably average or terrible. I prefer my RPGs to be offbeat, like the Paper Mario games.
Of course, better characters are a must as well, I think. Imagine my disappointment when I downloaded Breath of Fire II for the SNES only to find out that your first two party members were awful JRPG clichés? I mean, granted, that was just gaming at the time for you, but nowadays I like my protagonists with more meat.

On thing Nintendo is terrible about is taking risk in localization. For some reason, Nintendo forgets there are other markets outside of Japan (thus the problem in Europe). In the Cube era, they got really good about releasing titles in the West (the only franchise still in Japan at the time was Stafy). Now they seem to regress, as many DS titles haven't made it hear, and Nintendo is unwilling to try and release Mother 3 here (it's guaranteed 300k at least).
Another piece of the puzzle is Nintendo can't advertise for hobo. When they try to release a game here and see how well it does, they never advertise it. Mario, Kirby, Pokemon and the likes all sell well becuase they are established franchises and people know what they're buying. But who9 knows what Elite Beat Agents and Magical Starsign is? And of course there is the shoddy performance of Earthbounds advertisement. They really need to take a page from Microsoft. They actually try and advertise. They actually put backing behind "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" a title Nintendo would have left to the wolves. They really are stupid like that.
Part of it may be NoA and NoE, but I don't doubt NoJ has some fingers on the button. The sad part is that Japan is now the smallest of the three major markets as Europe gets stronger and stronger. Why not throw them a bone and give them their games?
In terms of this game, it looks like a JRPG but it's not too much of a bad thing. The GBA excelled with RPGs and it's not bad for the DS to have the same, and it does remind me of Golden Sun. I would like to see this come to the west, and it might have some chance. NoA hasn't put a confirmation on it yet, but it usually takes a while.
