Back again! So, I'd thought it might be good time to bring out what Nintendo Database does best: over discuss a Japanese company.
So this is something very important in this generation: the Casual vs the Hardcore. It's something we can talk about over and over again, but first, let's start with the basics. The first question is, do you guys really think there is a distinction in games between these two groups. And if there really should be.
I have more, but let's start here. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd GO!

I think Nintendo is trying too hard to be casual, and in effect, they completely forgot who their target audience should be.
Actual gamers
Buuuuuuuuuuuut this has all been said before.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut this has all been said before. Hmmm. Do you think I picked a bad topic? But, I think that there is a distinction. Games like Wii Play and Metal Gear Solid are in leagues of their own, but sometimes I think the distinction is made too much. Games have been getting easier for a while. I can go back and play the Mario and I find them quit challenging, but New Super Mario Bros was incredibly easy. From the Gamecube era and on, games have gotten easier. Not just Nintendo games, but in GTA4, it's even easier to outrun the cops. Could this be a change made for gamers who aren't as good as others? I think Nintendo does do it, but I think it's a line in people's eye's. Mario Kart Wii is seen as a much more "Casual" game. The game has been made easier, but only ion some aspects. But in others, it adds factors considered "Hardcore". Snaking was removed (the bane of many), the CPUs are harder (use items better) and of course an amazing online (by their standard at least). So I think there is "Casual" and "Hardcore" but I do not think that there is a clear line.

There should be no distinction between Casual and Hardcore games, but instead by how devoted you are to the game. For example, Smashchu says that Mario Kart Wii is a casual game, when in fact I actually play Mario Kart Wii nearly every day, and find it to be the best game in the Mario Kart series that I have played, and that INCLUDES Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. The only Mario Kart game I haven't played is Mario Kart DS, and if snaking really is as broken in that game as the reviews say it is, I can likely include Mario Kart DS in my assessment, though I still plan to get it when I get a DS.
On the other hand, we have Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While I do like Brawl more than Melee, I don't see myself playing it as regularly as Mario Kart, and basically will only play it with Friends. I think the names make all the difference. Knowing that you are actually competing with actual people, is just satisfying to me. Well, that and that Mario Kart Wii has better online play than Brawl, and apparently I am into that stuff. That above all else makes me question my console allegiance, but then as long as TimeSplitters 4 appears on Wii and has online, I'll be happy in my FPS quotient, that's for sure.
