Okay time to start a new topic!
Game credit sequences! Should they become more interactive (game like) than non-interactive? (film/tv like) Should/could they be intergrated into/with the game better?
This idea was partally inspired by this topic from NeoGAF called "Modern Video Game Credits are Too Damn Long" where there was talk about how credits go on for around 15-20 minutes (because some people think there may be a "stinger"/ or a small piece of footage/sequal hook at the very end of it and you don't want to miss it). Where two major offenders were GTA IV (very long and surpringly not up on YouTube) and the Scott Pilgrim Vs the World The Game (roughly 14:00 minutes long . . . FOR A DOWNLOADABLE TITLE and unskippible and required to be seen at least 4 times because the game must be beaten with each of the 4 playable characters)
Of course the first credit sequnce will come to come to mind will be Super Smash Bros Melee credit sequence, that resembled a rail shooter and involved shooting the names of all the staff members. (I know there's many more awesome interactive credit sequences but I wanted to get at least one example off the top of my head).
But I have to admit why does a rail shooter appear in a fighting game? (And there's not Star Fox references in that either) Could a stage have been unlocked that could involve fighting on top of the staff members names?
Why doesn't Mario Kart have the credit sequence play out on Rainbow Road or an original final track? (Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64 would have been an approitate place for a credit seqence because it's around 7 minutes long for all 3 laps and visually kind of boring).
I have to admit making a interactive credit sequence for a "serious/realistic" game would be difficult and possibly out of place. Though those games usually do something like a continued minature story/(and possibly closure for minor characters) that plays out over the credit sequence.
Eg Star Fox 64 has The Star Fox team reuniting and returning back home and being offered a chance to be in the Cornearian army (end spoiler).
TLoZ:OoT has Everyone having a massive party, and such and the sages looking down from Death Mountain.(There's probably more but it's been a while since I last saw it) (end spoiler).
But for every "serious" game that does the former, there will always be long credit seqences that fade to black and then just have white text slowly going up the screen for 15 minutes while the credit music starts looping.*
* Part of the reason may be "crunch time/pressure to complete the game by it's due date" in the games development prevents the dev team from creating what could be a better credit sequence and also that as games get bigger, more people/resources (even from other countries) are required so credits become longer.
What does everyone else think?
