15 June, 2008. A historical moment for me.
After two freaking years of struggling, I finally got my Wii... (Todd me if you must) without successfully "letting its price drop". I was too foolish to think "tech products will see price falls" works on Wii... It workED on GameCube, a relatively uncommon product; but on Wii... it simply doesn't work.
Well, with all those crazy inflation these year around, consider the non-rising price of Wii a bonus.
There are a few comments I guess I can make on my first-hand experience of Wii:
40% Graphics: Horrible on my HDTV. Nothing else to be said. It's been jaggy... isn't there something called a deflicker or something similar? Should I refrain from component cable and use traditional AV cable so that the image looks more blurry and the jags less apparent? Surely, games are for fun; and this exactly means it has to have fun enough grahics. No down-to-detail graphics doesn't mean players have to read pixels.
75% Audio: No comment as of now. Sounded great in my cousin's; but I have no time to test it.
60% Internet, WiiConnect 24 and Nintendo WFC: All are great; after I finally have a wireless adaptor as well. The only problem is that I don't actually live in Japan or one of the Nintendo regions. And Mario Kart Wii has fun Wifi play (although people keep pwning me)!
55% Wiimote: Pretty annoying that you have to remove the protector whatever happens: changing battery, playing Mario Kart Wii... The protection jacket should be redesigned.
0% Channels and Wii Menu: I kept complaining on it, so I'll just skip it.
So.... the conclusion is, the Wii is, after all these years of seeing, playing and actually owning and online playing, is more of a conceptional product and need serious improvement. And honestly, had WarioWare Smooth Moves not been awesome, i might as well skip it and wait for the next out of disappointment. With limited time, why don't I simply concentrate on GameCube where it can be fun for another 10 years with 14 games I currently own?
There are not only disappointment though. For the game I bought along the system, Mario Kart Wii, where I thought to be a "disappointing but still worth playing" game, turned out to be good for me. People complained about the game not on skill, but this is exacty what I like about. It's fun seeing me getting 1st->12th->1st->12th (and having a 3rd as the final result)! The only thing I don't like about the game is the Rating thing. Start with 5000 and keep losing until zero like in Tetris DS. I mean, it's a game for fun, not a gamble! *hugs Sakurai*
