Almost positive E. Gadd talks to you by a giant Game Boy Horror, which would be a Luigi's Mansion reference moreso than a hardware reference.

It's a giant Gameboy Color (I never played Luigi's Mansion).
It's still a Gameboy though.

Nah, I'd have to say it counts as in series continuity the second time, wouldn't it? Kinda like, say, Mr EAD in F-Zero - its still a cameo, but after the first time, its really just continuity.

Yeah, cameos that become repeat entries in another series are a pain in the ass, because it means I have to refer to them every single time. And it gets worse when the original is definitely a cameo, but becomes less so as it develops over time.
F-Zero is the worst culprit for consistent cameos, but Kirby's costumes are the most irritating in terms of changing over time.
