When I first saw this on YouTube I was surprised. I don't really like Simon Belmont's outfit but what can I do about that? I hope there are some unique CV characters... like that Cornell guy from Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness (N64)... he can turn into a werewolf! Oh, maybe Death can be playable, too... it would be fun to play as the Grim Reaper himself!

Alucard is the best Castlevania character on the face of the universe. His dad is fucking Dracula. He killed the Grim Reaper. He can turn into a wolf and a bat. He has a pet flying sword.
Richter is also pretty badass, and I believe both are playable characters. If they are not, I will not even think about buying this game.

Sorry, guy... but the Belmont in this game is SIMON. You know, the original guy from the NES game... However, you do get Maria Renard no matter how badly that wizzles on canon! EDIT: Though according to Wikipedia, Trevor Belmont is in this game also. That'd just wizzle on canon more, but no Richter still.

I don't think Konami's worrying much about canon with this game. I may pick this up on a lark when it gets on the cheap side, but the general vibe I've been reading has not been kind so far.

Well, the game ships today. I haven't seen any reviews yet, but I don't plan on picking it up anyway. Personally, I think the game is going to flop big time, and it'll be in bargain bins in a month (or at least right after Christmas), so I'm just going to wait until then. GameTrailers has a ton of new videos for the game, including a launch trailer that's nearly six minutes long. It actually doesn't look too bad, and I'm willing to give the gameplay a chance. [rant] I'm still bothered by the character design, tho. Take Eric Lecarde for instance. I love the character because he's from one of my favorite Castlevania games. And granted, he originally looked rather effeminate in the Japanese/European version, but now he looks (and sounds!) more like Maria Renard than Maria Renard does! I'm all for giving characters a makeover. Nintendo does it all the time with Link and others. But what's going on with Castlevania Judgment is like giving Link a pink mohawk, having him strut around shirtless with the physique of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and covering him in tattoos. It loses the core essence of the character. I wouldn't know who these characters were supposed to represent if their names weren't printed on the screen. [/rant] Pardon the rant, but I'm just so baffled at the choice of style. It's so far removed from the core essence that it's lost what made it appealing in the first place. I hope Takeshi Obata stays away from Castlevania after this.

The character designs are just silly, to that I will agree.
I'm also disappointed by the limited character selection. Since I've only played the DS games so far, I was hoping to see Soma (actually I wanted to see Julius) and someone from Portrait of Ruin.

Now that you mention it, it is a little strange that Soma isn't represented. Perhaps he's a secret character? Technically, there is someone from Portrait of Ruin... Sort of... [spoilers] Wind is actually the ghost of Eric Lecarde. And he certainly looks a lot more masculine.[/spoilers]

Well, I'm just happy you can play as Death. That's my only reason for wanting this game.
Also Dracula.
And Alucard.

Here's X-Play's review. They gave it a 1/5. Ouch! Basically, they thought it was boring, tedious and shallow. Apparently, they also shared my sentiment about the character designs. They were also nice enough to mention that the "real" ending to the game (which you can only get by beating the game once with every character, and then one more time after that) is text. Just text.

Wowwwwwww...
Why do I still have a Wii? Why can't we ever get anything good on it? Why is the 360 getting game after game while I'm stuck with shit?
Fuck.

I was hoping it would end up being a decent game afterall, despite early reports of the game being mediocre. But this looks like a rental at best.... ...I do like Simon's shorter haircut though. Why do I still have a Wii? Why can't we ever get anything good on it? Why is the 360 getting game after game while I'm stuck with shit? Really, the only times I plug in my Wii nowadays is when I have people over who wanna Smash or the occasional VC update. The games I'm looking forward to right now only appear on the 360/PS3/PC platforms. Yeah the Wii has a few decent 3rd party titles between it's shitload of stupid minigame compilations, but I think you're better off with a used Xbox360 or something if you want some good non-Nintendo games.
