Here is a recent interview with Satoru Iwata. [/i][/ul] Apparently, a new system is in development. Keep in mind, it might be years before we hear anything else, but apparently the next system will opt for ingenuity as opposed to innovation. Who knows, maybe we'll get this as an updated Wii (a la DS Lite). Time will tell...

I've heard the rumors of DS 2 being announced this year, but a second Wii?

Companies are always doing this these days (PSone, PS2 Slim, DS Lite, PSP Lite, Elite(?)) I don't think that will happen with the Wii but like TVeye says, many years before we hear anything I think. We need to settle in still and let our bank balances recover from gaming losses

I wouldn't expect to see one for a long time. 2011 might be the earliest we see one, and 2012 for the earliest release. I am still skeptical on a new handheld.
Why? Why upgrade when the current hardware is booming.

Why upgrade when the current hardware is booming. Well a new DS makes logical sense. The PSP is beginning to own the handheld market because everybody who wanted a DS owns one already. So, what better way to fix that than to make a new DS altogether?

Look at them right now and I still can't find when weekly PSP sales were higher then DS's It has been the best selling system worldwide right now, so cutting it off would be dumb. It can still run for a few more years. EDIT:DS has beaten PSP every week this year. EDIT2:The last week where PSP sales were higher then DS's was September 21st, 2007. The DS also sold over 1million units every week from Thanksgiving to the years end. Don't think it went below a million once, but it did break 2million a few times. As you can see, this system may be around for a while.

Sorry TV Eye, I dont any of those numbers any where. The only week that matches your days was back in 2006, and the DS still beat the PSP in every week. Not to mention your 360 numbers are quite low. Where are you getting this from? (Since I'm questioning you, my numbers come from VGChartz Hardware sales. www.vgchartz.com/weekly.php

No wonder, yours are US sales. The ones I used were Japan.
Still though, where do the Japanese value sales more, US or Japan?

I know I'm once heard in the past that once Nintendo finishes and releases a console, there hardware team then starts working on the next console. Nintendo often does a lot of things years in advance. So they have probably been working on the Wii's successor since 2006 - early 2007.
I think the GBA was actually created around 1997 when the GB Color got realeased but they wanted until 2001 (or whatever year it was released in) becuase the price to make one/sell one went down.
Another example is of a motion controller that Juilan Eggebrect (president of Factor 5, the group that made the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games and think I did not spell his name right) said that he got to use a prototype motion controller just after the GCN came out.

I used them and focus more since it should the overall market, and not just one region. Sorry for the confusion. On that note, I wouldn't see Nintendo make a new one if their current one is still doing as well as it is. Even if the PSP is doing better in Japan now, the system is still flying in all other regions and holds 66% of the market.
