Because its a game, and I tend to not cry incessantly when something goes wrong in a video game. Plus, I've said it before, but if you can't work your way around getting hit by items, you suck anyway. Reminds me of a funny webcomic. I'll see if I can find it and post it here. Anywho, the reason none of us are foaming at the mouth is becuase it's Mario Kart. It should be known at this point that you can easily get shot down due to items. It's been this way since Double Dash (when Blue Shells becuase gods of destruction). The only difference in Wii is that you are more likely for it to happen. I've gone into races and been hit by three blue shells, but other times I'd never get touched. But it's MARIO KART. This stuff isn't new, just more of it since the last one. Thusly, one of the biggest reasons no one rages at this game is becuase it's known that this game is about get shots though the ranks. The two biggest things are Blue Shells (which were always a pain) and rubber band AI (which existed in the other games but is worse then DS). Of course, the latter has never been as bad as 64. Of course, the other reason none of us foam at the mouth is most of us (I assume) are doing what Mario Kart is for: playing with friends, and now, online. The rubber band melts away and you play with lots of different folks. Heck, I get frustrated when there isn't a Blue Shell to kill 1st (usually becuase he is what I call a bikecigarette and is miles ahead to improve his e-penis). This is where Mario Kart has always excelled and it still does. The formula has never changed, just altered slightly. I do think DS is better made overall, but the online is the best in any Nintendo game to date. Who the hell is Rubber Band Al? Never heard of him.

Incase you aren't joking it's when the AI has a golden mushroom up it's ass after it takes a hit and is right behind you again within seconds.

The best example of Rubber Band AI I've seen is in Mario Kart 64 where you use the unofficial shortcut to skip half the stage on Rainbow Road by jumping off the slope at the start. If you watch the map, at least one racer will suddenly be travelling at super speed in order to catch up to you again.
It's a programming trick, providing the AI with abilities you do not have in order to save on the processing power it takes to have half-decent AI. It's more heavily criticised these days as even the Wii has significantly more processing power than the N64, and we expect cleverer responses.
OK, here we go - playing Mario Kart Wii is like playing against an entire team whose only goal is to trash you. You can't hear them, but they are all plotting to bring you down. They also have more abilities than you do (rubber banding, better chances of getting certain items).
If the AI in Mario Kart Wii was a person, everyone would call it a cheating hax fag.

It's when the AI will speed up if your ahead to make it more challenging. It's worse in Mario Kart 64. If you have the map the goes around the screen, the AI will actually teleport. The others have had it, but never terrible noticeable. MKWii might be one of the worse. Of course, the AI doesn't have a better chance of getting any item. If that was the case, it would be blue shells back to back. It's just there is more of them.

I'm not so sure of that. I'm not saying the game is programmed to stop you at all costs - otherwise yes, it would give all the opponent AI blue shells, and would have received the worst review scores ever!!
But it is trying to stop you winning more than any of the other games. I can power slide round corners, I can make sure I have the right defensive items to hand...
But when every attack makes you drop your item, and is immediately followed by two more... when opponent cars are able to simply shunt you into a wall or off a cliff by brushing past you or doing that slipstream turbo... when you respawn somewhere where you have to reverse to take the alternate route, or you respawn miles away from where you fell... when every sonovabitch behind you has a POW Block or a Lightning Bolt or a Blooper (or all three)... and you're still on 50cc Mode?
Sometimes I wonder what Nintendo's quality control department gets up to these days.

Mario Kart Wii its basically Mario Kart DS for the on a Home Console, some things that worked/were bereable on the portable just dont translate well into the console format (like having CPU in Vs and battle mode, Higger dificult level no 2p GP) the only mode of multiplayer I had done in MKWii is the 2p Online, that should give you an idea of how lackluster it was (Like in DS but there it was excusable as it was hard to get a second player) Still I liked Online a lot, its easyly my most played online game ever.
P.D. I found Ruber Band AI to be the least in MKWii as I could send CPU`s from 1rst to 6th place easy thanks to the overpowered items something that would never be posible in any other MK)

rebuttal! But when every attack makes you drop your item, and is immediately followed by two more... doesnt actually happen al that often. Maybe a blue shell / POW block combo, but since POW block affects everyone, its can almost be more beneficial than just a blue shell by itself. only happens if you have a lighter kart / bike - and you can do it back if they have the lighter one never seen either meh. as Ive said, ive never been hit by maybe 2, 3 items at once. And POW and lighting bolts both even the playing field, they dont just attack you. So it doesnt seem to be a problem at all. agree to disagree?

I remember when playing MKWii on that GC DK course. I needed to win (or something). I was the leader the whole fucking race until I was at the bridge, last lap, and very close to the finish line. Pow a red shell and right after that comes a fucking blue shell and then comes that fucking Bowser and shunt me down off the bridge. I didn't play the game for 2 weeks after that happened.

Well, how about Mario Kart 64? Yeah, it has no ghost data, no online*, no Wii wheel**, and no Miis***. It's fun, right?
* It lags, and is full of unpredictable jerks. ** It's tiny and hard to hold, I've heard. *** Mostly a gimmick.
So, sorry to not playing MK with you guys, but 64 sounds really good right now!

Mario Kart 64 manages to lag without even being online - 4 player MK64 should be great, but its near unplayable these days. The Wii Wheel is offset by the brilliant Wiimote combo, and Miis are great but don't have to be used at all.

Really? From the Wii? That's bad. I just downloaded it today, and played it with my mother. The software ran well...but my mother did not.
